Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election?
Thoughts? I don't really know the chances, or the situation.
I don enjoy Tarek's take on it though

And yes, this guy is essentially living under police protection. -
Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election?Hehe, well that's a common misconception about the Arab spring, these so-called pro-democracy progressive rebels are a mechanism for change, not liberal change, but Islamist change.(Original post by G8D)
It would seem quite pointless after all this fighting and rebellion in the name of "democracy" and "progress" to vote in a Muslim party.
Look at tunisia, Libya, what will probably come of Syria etc etc -
Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election?Tunisia's government said sharia law will not be implemented in Tunisia and so far they have been true to their word and Libya banned religious parties.(Original post by prog2djent)

Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election?Did I ever mention that I think Sharia Law could be implemented? That's just you assuming.(Original post by AkaJetson)
Tunisia's government said sharia law will not be implemented in Tunisia and so far they have been true to their word and Libya banned religious parties.
Very few Arab countries have Sharia Law, I can't even think of any really, not even Saudi Arabia.
That isn't the point though, they may not want to implement Sharia, but its a sure bet they will put in place some pretty backward and ILLIBERAL social policies of they did gain power.
What happened to Egypt? Has the Islamic Revival since the 70's really affected Egypt? -
Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election?Actually in Egypt since WW2 and the cold war there has been a struggle between those who want to westernise and those who wish to return to more traditional morals, Mubarak wanted westernisation the people don't.(Original post by G8D)

Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election? And the Muslim Brotherhood have said they will still agree to the Camp David Accords. Egypt will still compromise itself for Israel's security, forgetting the Palestinians.(Original post by TheHansa)
They will win.
http://www.haaretz.com/news/middle-e...endum-1.423099The adherence of the Muslim Brotherhood to the Camp David accords has turned into a test of the reliability of the movement when it comes to international relations, and also part of the criterion by which the U.S. will determine the level of aid that the Obama administration will give to Egypt. -
Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election?Soon it will be just Iran that is enemies with Israel, which makes no sense.(Original post by Florrick)

Iran is just messed like every other "Muslim" country, doubt it'll do anything to Israel.
Anyway, so much for ''Muslim brotherhood". Well done Egypt.

Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election? It'll probably look something like Saudi Arabia with laws derived from Islam but collaboration externally.(Original post by Florrick)

Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election? Please don't call it "collabration", more like compromising with your enemies in fear of losing power.(Original post by TheHansa)

Exactly what the Muslim world needs more of.

Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election?of course it won't do anything. Iranians don't like to get themselves in harm's way. which is why they have some Lebanese Shia to do the fighting for them. However, politically, they are enemies, and Iran is, in practice, the only enemy state Israel has.(Original post by Florrick)

Re: Will the Muslim Brotherhood win the Egyptian election? There's no way Egypt will end up like Saudi. Arabs aren't all the same you know, Egyptians would not accept a Saudi style rule.(Original post by Florrick)
I think it'd be akin to Saudi Arabia, religious but suck up to the West.
Not much change tbh.
