Suggest benefits to plants of being able to respond to changes in day length?

I don't really know how to go about answering this :/

The length of the day changes throughout the year. A plant that is resistant of these changes can survive all year round?

first example off the top of my head would be when the stomata open and close - you wouldn't want it opening during the day during a long summer day because it would lose water etc etc
