Sounds like a pyramid scheme or similar, or an outright scam. Anything that sounds too good to be true probably is.

Seems like those jobs, where earning's is based on commission and isn't entirely a proper contract

"Simply deliver and collect our well-known brochure in your local area and take the orders they produce to the customers when they come in – it really is that simple. "

    Is it not like Avon/Betterware?

Legit but not worth it from what I've seen/heard.
A few family members have done them for different companies. One was for Avon - to make money on this, you need to have GOOD customers who are going to spend a fair amount with each catalogue as your earning are commission. Also the catalogues, order forms etc etc are paid for by you.

With another catalogue company, not sure which one but it involved a lot of house products and random crap, it was a hard earner. For each catalogue round (dropping off/collecting), it earned around £10. Not worth it at all. It'll depend on where you live/the customers you get as to whether you'll earn with some.

I remember looking at Gumtree for jobs a while ago. I was looking at Secretarial/PA jobs and one of them was titled "Have you seen The Secretary". Upon opening it they asked if you had seen the film "The Secretary" and that they require someone "well groomed, well dressed - must be prepared to undergo an inspection, accommodating - must be open to new ways of working, discrete, ability to take instruction".

They were looking for a secretary to have sex with. Possibly while they worked ("new ways of working"). Kinky.

I did not apply, but I was always tempted to email them and ask if anyone had applied.

    Yes, I got the job.
Oh Gumtree, I've seen a few 'naked housecleaner' jobs on there too.

At least they're honest rather than you taking to job to clean under the desk and him trying to slip one in unawares. Or how about if you just turned up and he presented you with a 'uniform' made mainly of latex and a small amount of lace....

Anyway, my imagination is getting the better of me now.

Gum Tree has to be one of the dodgiest websites to look for work: Naked Male Butlers Wanted

Have you thought about looking at the DirectGov website for jobs?

Pyramid schemes are a marketing tool. You want to market a company, you hire say for example 4 Managers responsible for each of the 4 corners of the country and they get paid £x. They in turn hire area managers, responsible of each individual city in that region, and get paid £x/2. They in turn hire local managers, each responsible to one local area in the city and get paid £x/4. they in turn hire you, and pay you a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a fraction.

It's passing responsibility on down the chain of command for less money and more distributed effort as you go further down the links.

Best example of this is "Avon" products.

Ignore this! Don't apply for it. I did this once and yes while it is legit, it is definitely not worth it. You probably won't even get paid for it. You deliver catalogues to houses (which you don't get paid for it even if it takes you a whole day or 1 hour), a few days later you go back to the same houses to collect the same catalogues that you delivered with anything that they ordered.

If they have not ordered, you simply won't get paid. If they have ordered, and the orders are over a certain amount of money (together), then you'll get paid according to how much the orders are worth (i.e. you'll get paid more if the order is worth alot.) But if it is under that certain amount, you'll have to deliver the catalogues again with the risk of not getting paid again. And if you don't have a car, it's even worse!
