    Mathematics Applicants 2013
Thought I'd get the ball rolling since there's been a few other 2013 applicant threads popping up!

Say what A-levels you're taking, predicted grades and what Universities you're looking at

A-levels: Maths, Economics, Law, Media Studies (most likely to take up further maths AS in year 13)
    Predicted AS: ABBB
Unis: got list of 11 to look at but most favourite is sheffield at the moment

    AS Predicted Grades: A, A, B, A
    Provisional A2 Predicted Grades: A*, A, B
Unis: Current top 5 (in order) are Edinburgh, Cardiff, UEA, Heriot-Watt and Aberystwyth, but knowing me that will change quite quickly. Well, all but Edinburgh. If it's possible I definitely want to go there

Help please, my son is taking 4 A Levels, Math, Biology, Physics, English, he hoping to get A*AAA, he wants to go to bath to study Maths, is there any point applying if he didn't take Further Maths, he's thinking that he may take a gap year and take an AS in further and then re apply?

    Your help would be appchiated.

hey, I don't personally know the entry requirements for Bath and it would be easier if you just search up the university website to see. From the knowledge that I know, top universities will certainly want further maths so if he wants to study at other top 10-20 unis then it would be advisable to take a gap year and take up further maths

I also like the sound of Heriot-Watt! It looks really nice and the course sounds good but I won't be able to visit until the "applicant visits" as its too far

Thank you, he may have time to drop a subject and take a AS in further math.

I'm in warwickshire so its about 6 hours by train from my house, or 8 ish hours by car :/

You can phone/email the universities he'd like to apply to. I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

Actually, I'd double check going by train, because I'm fairly sure that from when I used to go up there, Virgin ran a train that was only 5/ 5.5 hours from London to Edinburgh I remember that because it was my favourite train as it was only 4 hours to Birmingham from Edinburgh and it was more spacious and cleaner than Cross Country trains

I'm just wondering, what have people been doing to prepare themselves for applying to uni, as in things to put on their personal statements? I've realised I've got to write it this summer and i haven't read any of the books I need to.
But i've been to lectures and a maths headstart course and i'm doing an epq related to maths.
    What about everyone else?
Hm, I've read a few maths books that are on the Oxford and Cambridge reading lists, and they've been incredibly interesting. I'm going to reread them over summer though so that if I get an interview for anywhere I can talk about them I've also been acting as a TA in a Year 9 maths class once a week and took a few of their lessons, which has been really interesting, and I assist in a Year 7 science club I'm probably going to put down about the SMC and STMC as well, and probably the Pink Kangaroo that I got into in Year 11. I think your epq would be a really good thing to write about I wanted to do one but my school wouldn't let me -_-

    A Levels:
    - Mathematics
    - Further Mathematics
    - Physics

    AS Levels:
    - Applied Business
    - Additional Further Mathematics (Self teaching myself this next year)

I'm on Edexcel exam board for Maths; the only modular scores I have so far are 99 in C1 and 95 in S1. Really hoping to replicate this in August as Cambridge and Warwick are the universities I'm most interested in.

Hey :hi: I have some questions if you don't mind

Which universities did you eventually choose as your Firm and Insurance?

Also STEP - how did you find it? What sort of things did you do to prepare?

What do you learn in maths undergrad that you don't learn in physics and vice versa?
