Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013They think London is too dangerous and costly and that I'd be better off somewhere else...(Original post by CD315)
Why? :O
The Imperial and UCL courses look so good though...

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013Meee... I've been having that dilemma for a while.(Original post by When you see it...)
Is anyone here applying for Maths and/with Physics courses (or even for straight physics but have been lurking on this thread like me)?
I have posted a thread similar to this for physics:
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=2074232
I can't view that thread.

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013It is not dangerous, especially where Imperial is (South Kensington!). Imperial have a good financial support package as well, up to £4000 a year bursary, which is better than anywhere else I've looked at.(Original post by Maths_Lover)

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013That's what I keep telling them... I wouldn't qualify for a means tested loan however but it should be fine still - I'm not much of a spender and I can't see myself going out very much so my living costs would be low.(Original post by CD315)

I really want to apply to Imperial...

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013Ah, fair enough. You should just apply, it looks like a great uni.(Original post by Maths_Lover)

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013Yeah, I compulsively have to spend hours on something I don't get myself before I ask a teacher, but I usually still have plenty of ammunition by the time I next see them (mainly clarifying my hunches etc.). Which modules are you doing BTW?(Original post by Maths_Lover)
Alright - I will ask them if it is OK that I enter myself for the modules first because of the cost. I should hopefully have a job by the time of the exams so if they can't do it then I'll pay for the exams.
I won't expect them to answer my questions as they are not familiar with the content of the additional further maths questions. Usually when I get stuck, I sit there until I figure it out myself or come back to it later or research on the internet, so I'll probably carry on doing that so they don't have to learn extra material.

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013Oh yeah, it got fused with an older thread (the one with the poll if you saw it). Anyway, I can link if you want.(Original post by Maths_Lover)

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013Thanks guys. I will keep working on persuading them.(Original post by CD315)

So do I - hours, days, weeks...(Original post by When you see it...)
Yeah, I compulsively have to spend hours on something I don't get myself before I ask a teacher, but I usually still have plenty of ammunition by the time I next see them (mainly clarifying my hunches etc.). Which modules are you doing BTW?
I've done C1, C2, C3, C4, M1, D1, S1, S2, FP1 and AEA Maths so far and I would like to do FP2, FP3, M2, M3, M4, M5 next year and I may or may not decide to do D2, S3, S4 depending on whether or not I have time for them with preparing for STEP (although the more maths, the better).
What about you?
Yes please.(Original post by When you see it...)

I'm probably doing the mechanics modules extra, but not 100% sure yet. -

If you have the time and opportunity, it would be well worth it as they are useful for both maths and physics courses (and they're fun).

Exactly what my parents think, I'm starting to think its for the best anyway, I don't want a costly accommodation that I have to share with someone, and the increased danger...(Original post by Maths_Lover)

Though the courses and London uni's do look nicee

I'll probably end up happy either way.
How's the STEP prep. coming on?

Haven't bothered with STEP yet, just AEA, but i'm getting more lazy now(Original post by Maths_Lover)

Noooo - losing your knowledge is the worst thing you can do.
That being said, I haven't done a STEP question in weeks...
Might go and try one now...

August is a good use for a break, but laziness loses knowledge, come september I'll probably regain that knowledge :L(Original post by Maths_Lover)

I think the hardest thing is getting into it, but once you're there you just want to keep going (or I do anyway
).

Re: Mathematics Applicants 2013No... I have about half of a PS...(Original post by CD315)
Have you done a draft of your PS yet?
I only got back from holiday a few days ago. I plan to have a PS marathon this weekend.
