Do you know if the Life Science department accept transfers at all?
I guess it depends what you're changing from, but I believe they are one of the most flexible departments if you change within it, not sure about from another department. Again your Best bet really is to email the faculty.

Did you transfer before starting the course or after? If after, did you have to start from the first year of the new course?
I changed before. I know a fair few of my friends have looked into course changes after first year and it really has depended on the department. For example, in life sciences I know alot of people who are changing from biology to biomed or biochemistry, they have not had to repeat a year, where as a friend who is switching from french and spanish to european studies and spanish has to (despite being on the same course.) Alot of courses have pre requisite modules you have to take, which is what makes it hard. Again the best way really is to email your tutor or the department!
