Insanely good website idea - but too big for myself to handle
I just had an insanely good idea for a website that would generate huge amounts of traffic.

And I mean an insanely good idea that no one has done before.

There's no way I could get the whole thing up by myself before someone ripped my idea off.

I don't want to share my idea with anyone else, what should I do?

I don't know php/mysql which is what I would need to know in order to put the site up, I don't know how to legally protect the idea either

Is it so insanely good that it will make people insane? If so, it's a pretty bad idea. You wouldn't what to turn your users insane would you?

sounds like you need a lawyer... hope you're rich...

if you're not then time to get coding haha

intellectual property regarding the web and software is still quite a contentious area - it is possible but would likely be expensive and you would need legal advice in the form or a solicitor and patent attorney and/or copyright agent depending on what it was.

I know that feel all to well.
What you can do (I'm waiting 'till after exams) is put it on kickstarter. Technically, no-one can steal it when you've put it there, and you an get some funding to hire a coder. Unfortunately, though they can't steal it, they can come up with something very, very similar.
I think you could also get a loan via other channels, but I don't really know. Or you could take a risk and put your own money in.
To prevent IP theft, you either need to spend a lot of money, or do it yourself. If you hire a coder, I think you can draw up a contract to make sure he doesn't tell anyone or steal the idea.

You can learn how to program/design, hire a designer or programmer to do the complicated stuff or just adapt a script already out there to suit your needs. You'll also need to know how to SEO/market the website best, you may have a great idea but if not many people see it and if it doesn't take off in a massive way, it will probably be copied, done better and to a bigger audience. Not sure about how to legally protect yourself.

There's also the possibility that your idea may not be good as you think it is (or it has actually been done before).

I would know how you could protect your idea but telling you would give me no benefits

You run the risk (very similar to facebook's creation) of a designer in his own free time stealing the idea and improving it with his skills. As a user already mentioned, intellectual property laws are very tenuous without a well-paid lawyer.

OP better start coughing up the money.

EDIT: I honestly doubt OP's idea is worth anything at all.

I wouldn't waste people's time if I knew it had be done before, and I've done my research.
