Self teaching D1 and M1
How long would it take? I have knowledge of C1, C2, S1, and have self taught FP1 (only 1 past paper done for FP1, would need to do more). I have exactly 10 weeks to do this in, and already have the edexcel D1 and M1 textbook, as well as a subscription to Livemaths (friend let me borrow, has a few months left). How many hours should I be doing for this each day?
thanks -
Re: Self teaching D1 and M1
Not sure about D1 but M1 isn't very difficult to self teach. Spend maybe 6 hours a week doing M1. It isn't very long and most of the content overlaps. Algebraic manipulation, factorising and the quadratic formula are assumed knowledge from C1. Sine rule and the cosine rule from C2 are assumed also.

Re: Self teaching D1 and M1With 4 hours a day, you could EASILY do it in two weeks(Original post by FEOFILAKT)
Damn, I was planning on 4 hours a day! Thank you guys.

Re: Self teaching D1 and M1
I'm thinking of self teaching myself M1 and M2, so I'll be using the book, and cd provided, a tutor if necessary, and solomons papers ---VERY good for tougher questions that challenge you
I've done D1, and in comparison to C1 and C2, it's so easy, but the grade boundaries are ridiculously high, so I'd recommend getting a tutor or teacher - 90% for an A and I only JUST got an A luckily
Good luck though

Re: Self teaching D1 and M1Depends on the exam board and the boundaries are different every year. However, you are correct about the boundaries being higher than they are for most other modules. Also, regarding the paper itself, do it in timed conditions because D1 is one of the few exams where you will be pressed for time.(Original post by Nia_Beth)

And although D1 is easier, it's a module that may take time to get your head around initially.
Oh and if you're teaching yourself M2, make sure you know M1 inside out
(That's all I can say really haha) and for M2, apply your M1 knowledge only when there is no alternative possible way to get your answer. ie, changes in GPE and KE, etc..

You definitely need to understand the concepts of D1 - then it will be a breeze. About a week or two before the exam, do tonnes of past papers and learn the structure of the questions - for edexcel they are literally identical every year. -
Re: Self teaching D1 and M1I think i'm being ambitious it thinking to do C3,C4,M1,D1 in 10 weeks, I'll just do M1 and D1.(Original post by CaligulazBaby)
I've just finished a rushed self-taught C1-4, S1-2. I'm pretty slack when it comes to studying so was studying on average an hour a day for 12 months for 5 of the modules. The last module was a wing and a prayer type thing. For 2 modules I'd say 120 hours total but this really is off the top of my head.
Personally I would work through all the chapters answering all the questions without dwelling on the areas you're struggling to understand. After finishing the chapters I'd go back and do the mixed exercise questions at the end of each chapter which is where I'd get a general overview reminder of what I'd studied as well as beginning to identify weaknesses. After finishing that I'd focus on these weak areas and then, when confident enough, work through the review exercises (there should be 2 or 3 of them in each edexcel workbook). Once again focus on weak areas from the review exercise. Finally download past papers and refine knowledge under mock exam conditions, constantly trying to find weak areas.
As mentioned I'm pretty slack when it comes to knuckling down to long study sessions so 10 weeks would be a bit crammy for me but if you have a studious mentality then you'll acheive your goal imo. -
Re: Self teaching D1 and M1Ambitious? 10 weeks is more than enough to learn C3, M1 and D1(Original post by FEOFILAKT)

Re: Self teaching D1 and M1You aren't being ambitious.(Original post by FEOFILAKT)

10 weeks are more than enough for 4 modules.
