Re: The potential break-up of the UKCan tell you're an Irishman!(Original post by toddman10)
the line that was drawn on the map to separate the country was in favour of the British, if the 3 other counties of Ulster were included in Northern Ireland there would be a nationalist majority and since they were not included the state had a unionist majority and so stayed under British rule
Perhaps the line was drawn so that.... ooo.... erm.... let me think- the heavily nationalist areas would..... let me think..... remain part of the nationalist country they want, Ireland??? rather than a conspiracy to make sure N Ireland doesnt have more nationalists...... -
Re: The potential break-up of the UKDon't some of the counties in NI have a nationalist majority?(Original post by billydisco)

I think he's actually right, I'm not sure that's even meant to be a secret. NI's borders were designed to give it a unionist majority. -

The counties of Tyrone and Fermanagh had a Nationalist majority at the time of partition, if Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan were included there wouldn't have been a Unionist majority in the state. It is well known that gerrymandering was heavily present in Derry City in the past.Last edited by toddman10; 27-07-2012 at 01:39. -
Re: The potential break-up of the UK
C
I personally doubt that either Wales or NI could go it alone and with nobody who could back them i do not believe they would leave the UK.
Scotland may well leave but only to jump into the Eurozone anyway.
Personally i have a slight leaning towards wanting an independent England at the moment but the union issue does not bother me in particular and i suspect the Scottish will stay.
