    I often just looked at what parts could be 'cut off' as such, then counted up atoms and found the Mr. If it was what I needed, I'd just stick the formula for it down, if not, I'd know if I was close. Try to avoid splitting benzene rings.

    My answer
    I would take the right hand benzene ring off, leaving C6H4OH
