    today i have eaten
    -porridge (plain made with water)
    -soup (around 200 cals)
    -2 apples, 2 pears, banana
-200g of cottage cheese (170 cals)
-vegetable omellette (made with virtually no olive oil, 3 eggs, tomato, spinach, onion and mushrooms)
    -3 nectarines/4 plums

i know i eat too much fruit, im trying to cut back. ive walked for around an hour today (pretty fast pace) and im planning to go on the cross trainer for an hour too. if i follow this regime for around 3 weeks should i see weight loss?
Far far too much fruit which means far too much sugar. Why not some carrot sticks, celery, cucumber sticks or peppers as snacks. It's quite high in carbs because of the fruit too. I used to be the same but now I'm so much more aware of it. It's great to eat fruit but like everything else (except veg really!) it should be in moderation. Just my opinion. Why not make your main meals bigger (like the soup) and more protein rich so you don't feel the need to snack so much?

Also there's not much point in walking for an hour and then an hour of crosstrainer. You can achieve better results in much less than two hours...do some actual running and sprinting. So smaller amounts of more intense cardio rather than hours and hours of low intensity cardio which will bore you very quickly. Think quality and not quantity.

Oh and why three weeks?!! Good luck!

three weeks till holiday with boyfriend/friends would swimming be a good form of cardio too? i run aswell, but find the cross trainer easier because i can access it anytime ( where as running i like to go late in the evening/early morning when theres less people haha) im trying to add more protein into my food but im scared of gaining weight, i have some issues regarding food. i also consumed rather alot of fruit on purpose today for the umm...desired effect on the toilet. sorry to be graphic but it makes me feel slightly better when my tummy looks less bloated

strong tea or ideally coffee will also have the 'desired effect' Also try to look at which types of foods make you bloat and cut back on them.

You can see differences in three weeks but there's not much point in dieting for three weeks alone and then going back to a normal routine after that. For good results, you need longer term aims. You won't gain weight if you don't eat too much. Tbh though, when I first started exercising, it was quite low intensity like 'power-walking' and crosstrainer with low resistance but because it was such a shock to the system, the weight just fell off. I literally lost three inches in three weeks from the bottom of my belly and I was a size 12 and not even overweight to begin with. These days, I have to work so much harder with regard to exercise and food just to maintain my weight, let alone lose any.

Go running once or twice and you'll soon realise that no-one is looking twice at you!! As for swimming, I can't swim so would be unfair of me to comment seeing as I don't do it.

~20g protein in 200g cottage cheese, ~5g protein in an egg.
You're getting like 40g protein max, rather low.

    (Original post by GildedButterfly)
eggs are protein and cottage cheese has quite a bit of protein?
the rda of protein is about 45 for women anyway...so its not rather low, its exactly what it should be if not a little high once all the other foods are added in.

personally your healthy eating plan seems fine, but id recommend you trade some of the fruit for veg or a leafy salad, as fruit contains lots of natural sugar and so can make you glucose levels spike, and you have a lot of it on your menu.

    11grams from fruit in total
+ the 5grams you say is in an egg (15grams total from 3 eggs)
+ 20grams you sya is in cheese.
that's 46grams (1 over the GDA) right there alone
    + 10grams from spinach
+ 25grams of protein per cup of outs in the porridge.
+ whatever protein is in onions mushrooms an unnamed soup and olive oil.

    really lacking protein isn't it...

PS - there's 17grams of protein in 100grams of oats, not 11, clearly you have no idea about the nutritional value of foods...
    Oh the irony

Realistically she will be having less than 20g protein from the cottage cheese, at 170calories for 200g it isn't pure cottage cheese, it will be one of the flavoured types you can get. Which has less protein and lots more sugar.

There is 11g of protein per 100g of rolled oats, you are including the protein from a serving with milk, she doesn't have milk with it.

+ 10g from spinach? Have you just plucked that number out the sky?
+ There is a gram of protein per 100g of onion, and 3g per 100g of mushroom. Admittedly it depends how much of the two she is eating, however it's not going to be all that much.
+ There is literally no protein in olive oil, it is 100% fat.

Will this diet help me to gain weight?
I'm almost 16, weigh 70kg and i'm 6'3. I've always been quite skinny, but will this diet help me to gain a lot of weight? I'm going to start training in about a month or two, but i'd like to see if i gain any fat from this diet first.

11:00 - 1 bowl oatmeal, whole milk, apple.
    3 scrambled eggs

    1:00 - x2 small chicken breasts
    x4 roasted white potatoes
    1 glass whole milk

    3:00 - x2 small chicken breasts
    x4 roasted white potatoes
    1 glass whole milk

5:00 - 1 peanut butter sandwich and 1 ham sandwich (whole bread)
    - 1 glass whole milk

    7:00 - red meat / chicken
    - white pasta / rice / roast potatoes
    - peas / broccoli / green beans
    - 1 glass whole milk

    10:00 - 1 bowl oatmeal, whole milk.

I'll add fruit throughout the day.

Thanks for any advice on my diet.

    Calories In > Calories Out

Can't be more simple than that...doesn't matter what you actually eat!

Estimate, there's various calculators online! I used this one - http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Just eat at a surplus of over 500 calories and the weight will pile on!

Nowadays there are handy apps that will do all the maths and data collection for you. Tell you with a good deal of precision how many calories you have consumed and other important things like protien, carbs, fats etc.

when you say analyse, do you genuinely expect any good responses?

cereal - rubbish 99.999% if cals come from refined sugar, switch to porridge instead
fruit bar - same as above, though i wouldnt know what to replace it with
lunch - how is that a lunch just generally bad
dinner- your 1st actual meal of the day, though im guessing the portion size is weak i dont really see the need for a dessert, particularly every day all they are most of the time is sugar and a bit of fat.

very poor, no protein, no complex carbs, no good fats.

I just eat anything in the fridge.

    My meal today:

    Reheated spaghetti bolognaise for breakfast

Lunch; same as breakfast+pizza+a peach+ an icecream

Dinner; not yet, probably something small like a snack.

you've been advised by sconter where you're going wrong (and you're going wrong pretty much everywhere).

I don't know what I expected, I was just interested to see. I am a recovered anorexic, I followed a diet plan for a while and then gradually adapted my diet as I got back to normal and now this feels normal to me, I wondered what it was like to other people, that's all.

I can only really have cereals for breakfast, porridge I've tried for it's goodness but it makes me literally sick.

What is wrong with my lunch though? I occasionally have a pesto pasta instead for variation as I get a bit bored.

Portion size for dinner is fairly decent IMO...whole chicken breast, half or a little more of a rice packet and a proportioned amount of veg.

As for a dessert, I'm not really bothered with them, but I'm made to have one as I've always had a yoghurt or mousse and I get accused of cutting calories otherwise, even though I'm not lol!!

How can I get more protein, and in particular complex carbs?? This was only a day's example, so perhaps may fair a little better another day, though generally day to day it's only the evening meal that differs...which I can see wouldn't perhaps be very varied, but I don't really know how else to vary it!

The best diet you can get is a-level exams if you work hard. I managed to lose 6 kg in 2 weeks, implying i ate everything i could, for example i was in pizza hut or equavalent every day.
Same, I lost a stone eating the same as usual

Re: The big "critique my diet" thread
Harcombe Diet: - Natural weight loss without having the trouble of exercising if you don't wish to/no calorie counting/worrying

Phase 1 - For first 5 days of THD all you can have is meat/veg/eggs/black coffee and natural live yoghurt
Reason for this is you aren't having things you could be intolerant to (eg: milk/carbs) so when you do introduce them something may make your body react to it so you know what you're intolerant to
If you aren't intolerant to something you can have it.
Intolerance = much easier weight gain

Phase 2 - I eat nothing with sugar in the ingredients. If I do want something sweet like chocolate I'll have a block or two of 85% dark chocolate.
Eat a lot of meat and vegetables, no processed foods basically.
    Wholegrain carbs like brown rice.
Natural live yoghurt with various fillings like fruits (berries), coconut, flavourings, on it's own etc.
I have black coffee over coffee with sugar/milk.
When eating a meal, I don't mix carbs with fat, so that'd be for eg - Meat with veg/salad or egg, or carbs with veg/salad/egg

If I do indulge on things refined with sugar then I'll just start Phase 2 again, it doesn't matter if you indulge

I've lost quite a bit of weight since starting three weeks ago and my parents are also on THC. I love it!
