People who are unable to add up should be removed from the genepool.
People who are unable to do simple maths should be removed from the genepool for the good of society.
For too long have cashiers caused rediculess queues because they cant do their jobs properly...
Also being good at maths corellates with intelligence and a more intelligent society has a stronger economy.
This is a theoretical arguement please ignore morality.
EDIT: Feel free to attack the arguement, but not the person. LSB is a perfectly reputable institution and even if you don't think so its irrelevent to the argument.Last edited by The Dufmeister; 17-06-2012 at 18:58. -
Re: People who are unable to add up should be removed from the genepool.
Being good at maths isnt the most important thing in regards to the intelligence of a person. A better conclusion to your post would be 'People who are unable to add up should be removed from jobs where this is a required skill'.

How about people who can't spell "ridiculous", OP?
Do yourself a little victory dance. -
Re: People who are unable to add up should be removed from the genepool. The same logic dictates that those with poor spelling, such as yourself, should be removed from society. And I know what you'll say, "I'm dyslexic though" but there are many disabilities that prevent an aptitude for simple maths - should we get rid of those who're unlucky enough to be born with a disability?(Original post by The Dufmeister)

Please link me to your source for "good at maths corellates with intelligence" and "intelligent society = stronger economy"
Even looking at it theoretically, there are thousands of essential jobs that the 'more intelligent' members of society wouldn't consider. If everyone was more intelligent, went to uni etc etc then who collects the bins, or cleans the gutters, or works on the market? Don't quite remember the last time I saw a graduate looking for a career with a removal company
tl;dr - OP hasn't thought this through at all

Re: People who are unable to add up should be removed from the genepool.
What a silly statement. How can you not consider morality in potential extermination of generations which have not even been born yet? Thats like saying abortion is wrong but you're not allowed to mention a good argument for it. Its silly. Now to criticism your argument, firstly no one is good at everything. I'm better at some things than others, like most people are. Why does that make someone not worthy of passing on their genes? Also, how can you associate intelligence with just ability in mathematics? What about famous painters/authors/musicians, are they not intelligent because they struggle with basic numeracy? I'm afraid that intelligence is too vague to define it to one factor such as that, and this is where your argument breaks down. Also, what if you had a child, who was unfortunately born with a mental deficiency, and couldn't do basic numeracy or literacy, should your child be removed from the gene pool? Granted, maths is important and useful, but it is probably less essential to be good at now than any other point in history. Even basic level maths can be calculated on a till, I work at a bar and use a till every week, and I always quickly ensure that each customer receives the correct amount of change. I struggle with maths, I got a D at GCSE and then did a re-sit and achieved a C. I now have a good offer from a good university which I am on course to achieve. My point is, maths is not the only way to be beneficial to society, and if you're not good at maths, its not the end of the world. Also, many people are actually good at maths, but the education system fails them. There are so many things to consider that you're argument is too simplistic.

Re: People who are unable to add up should be removed from the genepool.
OP the fact that you spelt "ridiculous", "argument" and "correlates" incorrectly just makes your whole post extremely ironic. I could argue that being able to spell correctly "correlates with intelligence and a more intelligent society has a stronger economy."
Also, I'm pretty sure that maths skills are not genetic. Being good at maths has a lot to do with how much work you put in. -
Re: People who are unable to add up should be removed from the genepool.Who is to say that is genetic then? Removing them from the gene pool won't get rid of laziness as this could just be as of result of upbringing or have other environmental factors such as a regular bus service so people use that instead of walking and so become more lazy.(Original post by The Dufmeister)

There is no reasoning unless intelligence can be directly linked to genetic factors - yes there have been studies but that doesn't explain why in my family there are both extremely intelligent people and extremely stupid people.
In the same sense, looking at it as a hypothetical as others have already brought it up and I mean no offense to you, OP, or any other dyslexics, but what about removing all dyslexic people from the gene pool to erradicate the disorder and improve the human race?
The point I am trying to make here is that removing lazy people would probably have a much smaller affect on the human race than removing other more genetically linked factors.
