Also this saves tax money employing philosophers
The state employs philosophers?! We talking Ancient Greece here or modern society?

At a glance I'd say OP might be referring to professions like medical ethicists, though I doubt this kind of niche is really that much of an affront to the taxpayer .

Living in ignorance makes me feel uncomforable and I won't be happy at all

    Through universities, yes.

Also I suspect in the NHS.

    What do you study OP?
Im not sure how that is relevant. Discuss the argument, not the arguer.

    1) London South Bank is a respectable academic institution
    2) Reductio ad homeium is not a valid debating technique
    3) How about addressing the philosophy of my question?

I merely bring an interesting observation for your consideration. I demand that you treat it with respect.
Unfortunately, respect is not something you can "demand", but only deserve.

People are happiest when living in ignorance.
Now for something more relevant to your post: "Do, kill thy physician, and the fee bestow upon thy foul disease. Revoke thy gift!"

Philosophy is the pin that never stops pricking. It is a quintessential example of the kind of critical thinking that separates man from beast.
if knowledge doesn't give you happiness right here, right now, then maybe you don't know enough yet and you're too impatient. Intelligence is great, but it's only the first step, if we could reach wisdom without cursing the path towards it, life would be a breeze.
I get the dilemma though: ignorants seem without a care in the world, educated people get depression, and those who are most knowledgeable become incarnations of the peaceful buddha.

I don't study philo by the way, I was **** at it back in high school, but 7 years on I realise I am only starting to understand the surface of it.

In fa t its very relevant. How can you expect us to argue with someone on the topic of philospohy when they haven't the slightest clue on what it is about.

It's almost like someone saying LSBU is crap when they have never seen it.

That is so true. People are happiest when we're all led along and TOLD to be happy. Things like the diamond jubilee, the olympics, ''nationalism'', these are all fundermentally meaningless things that have nothing to do with pretty much anyone personally-speaking. The more you look at each of them, the more you'll realise how 'empty' they really are, like why exactly should I be happy about the diamond jubilee? Noone can actually give a strong answer, but instead rely on vague recycled lines of arguments (''oh you know, the queen, 60 years, very long time, must be proud, she is everything good about our country'') that would sound ridiculous to anyone if you just take a moment to think about it.

Pffft might ruin society once the population have had their brains melted by Kant...
    He's better than Descartes!

I'm just revising that now! 'Tis true that Descartes does indeed have some comic value that Kant lacks, but that does little to make reading through pages and pages of terribly translated 17th Century French arse-gravy more bearable!
