Cheryl
OK, so theres a couple of things I don't understand...
Yes she may get to number 1, but it seems a LOT of people don't like her, especially given most people see right through her regarding the whole miming/unable to sing debacle. My question is, who is buying her records?
It seems she has a very loyal (working class?) fan base, who surge out to buy her record in the first week of release, but that's pretty much it. Yes she may hold the 'biggest first week sales' as the press like to remind us, but I've noticed it drops off pretty sharply after a couple of weeks or so. In the long run she hardly sells anything.
Secondly, I don't understand how she is doing well considering she just cannot sing. Not even to an average standard. I and I'm sure many people were willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but watching her truly awful performance (see for yourself) at the Jubilee concert put an end to all that. Even the very worst singers, with a good singing teacher, can get up to a reasonable standard. It seems like she or the record company hasn't even bothered. Her voice, even after all that editing, still doesn't sound nice at all. -
Re: CherylWhat has that got to do with anything? Her fan base or just silly teenage girls regardless of parent's income...(Original post by dd4483)

And why do you care so much? Look at Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj (and probably Rihanna, though I'm going to get negged for that) , heard them sing live? My cat used to screech out a nicer tune.
Talent doesn't come into it these days, it's all about the catchiness of the tune and their presence, attitude and appearance, -
Re: Cheryl
Always wandered this. Nowadays, its more to do with how catchy a song is and the appearence/identity of the artist.
Though, a lot of people complain about "chart music" yet don't bother paying for the artists/bands they apparently love, so they don't really have a right to complain about who gets in the Top 40 if they're not willing to change it.

Re: CherylI presume this consists of mostly teenage girls and x factor drones who have fallen for PR machine...(Original post by Stacey-)
She has a massive, strong fanbase. I've download her album but not bought it (which I do for many artists I like), and while she's not the best singer ever, she does have a rather nice tone to her voice, and she's got some great songs.
I say working class given the way she's been marketed as some sort of 'working class hero', given her background.(Original post by EffieFlowers)

Yes Katy Perry is bad (although I think for a rapper Minaj isn't bad), but nothing compared to Cheryl. I don't care, I just find it odd how after 10 years in the music business, and with access to the best voice teachers and producers etc, she still sounds terrible. I appreciate talent doesn't come into it, but even at worst, people expect an average voice, which she just doesn't even have. Sorry have you seen the Jubilee concert footage?
I see what you mean, but when the artist cannot sing, nor did she/he write or produce the song, it leaves a lot to be desired.(Original post by harufi)

Re: CherylYeah, it makes you think how you could really place anyone with an average voice in her shoes and they would do the same job.(Original post by dd4483)

If an artist cannot sing without ProTools fixing their voice, yet wrote or produced the song, can at least credit that they have some talent. -

Imagine if they were auditions for shows like the Voice.
Embarrassing. What's worse is Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj have world wide status at least Cheryl Cole is confined mostly to the UK. -
Re: Cheryl
She's awful. Absolutely no talent at all. The only thing she has going for her is her looks and those were only achieved with surgery and a ****load of make up artists and stylists. She even admitted here that she didn't write any of the songs on her new album and she finds singing 'difficult': http://www.popjustice.com/interviews...terview/92541/

People say "Oh not just listen to their music?" "Oh I hate it when people are very into celebrity's lives other than their music" .. if she makes good songs whether or not she's autotuned is irrelevant to me.
