    Diagnostic Radiographer Question.
    Hi,

I'm hoping any people out there can help me out with a very quick question I have regarding the starting salary for diagnostic radiographers.

I know they start on band 5 which starts at £21,176, but I'm wondering what the salary usually ends up being like when you factor in pay for unsociable hours.

I ask because I'm 29 and the starting salary I will be on is a really important factor when considering family finances.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Also, another quick one if anyone is able please.

What are the prospects for making the jump to band 6 pay? I understand this is for senior radiographers, so I could be curious to find out how long it takes to realistically make this jump.

    Thanks again.

    Hiya,

I've just qualified now. It depends on the department you're working in, some have oppurtunities where you can be band 6 within a year or two. Others you can be stuck on band 5 for years if there's no progression oppurtunities. Where I'll be working for example they explained their very pro-active so will push to get you up the banding and also on call etc depends. Some depts have gone to shift patterns which is less than those doing 24 hour on call service, if you find the right department though it's good. You have pay rises at set times when you show you're advancing etc. I'd say as newly qualified it's a good start though!
