One of the best ways to make money as a student is to become an online tutor. MyTutor pay £24/hour which is about 3x as much as working at a checkout - you can sign up by clicking here.

You have to be at uni to do that one, here are some other ways to make money:

Learn a specific skill and sell it on https://www.fiverr.com/
Babysitting (really easy if you know some people with kids)
Sell a load of your old stuff
Participate in university experiments (psychology ones often pay about £20-50)
Become a Secret/Mystery shopper
Do surveys online

I actually worked at a corner shop during that time, it wasn't the best pay but the employer was super nice. So you could try looking for a job on a smaller scale.
-get a 2nd paper round
-babysitting
-dog walking
-car washing
-as the PP suggested - work in a corner shop
As a 16 year old you could surely get a job somewhere pot washing.

if not i've heard youths are quite into selling drugs these days.
Youth offending - theft being the best option.

Get someone (well, as many people as possible really) to check over your CV and applications. I imagine you're not specialising your CVs and just handing in generic, ****ty applications that get shredded as soon as you leave the shop.
Offer to do extra chores for your parents/neighbours/grandparents? Or go on an eBay selling spree. That's my plan for the summer, anyway! I've tried applying for local jobs, but no one wants a seventeen year old who's off to uni soon. Sigh!

I feel your pain! I've applied for at least 40 jobs since the start of this year, 1 replied to let me down and the rest of them just ignored me. Hang in there mate

The same way adults make money. Find a job. If that's not working, you're either doing it wrong or not doing it hard enough.

The job market is a squeeze so don't worry much if you can't find a job.

Have someone check your CV and cover letter template.

Not much point using specialised CVs for menial jobs. Generic CVs are fine.

buy things online on the cheap from places like ebay, sell them for a small profit. you can maximise your profits buy buying items that could make a set and then selling the full set. worth a try. i.e- buying some tv series individually and then selling them all together.
I might do some work in a charity shop during the summer if I'm not successful in getting a job by the beggining of the summer hols just to top up my experience this could make me a more desirable candidate for a job. I also might try and do some work experience in a shop that pays and after the work experience period (not at all guaranteed) they may keep me on. That's how a lot of my friends got jobs! So those are some things I might do that you could possibly try out

Webcam.

Made me chuckle

I'm kinda in the same situation. Problem is, I can only start work some time next month, and I imagine that vacancies for small places go pretty quickly, so I'm not sure what I'll be able to get at the time. I'm just going to look around high street grocery stores, little places... might try the cinemas/super markets. Idk, I just need to use a few months to generate cash for uni :s-smilie:
6 neg reps for me and counting. Good to see people can see a joke and have a sense of humour.

I create websites and sell them on, it's pretty good and fun, if computers is your type of thing, I recommend learning some basic hosting knowledge, seo knowledge and Wordpress knowledge and work on it, if you don't like computers much then I'm sure you can work in shops now.
