    4 A2s or 3?!?! Help!!!
I currently have five AS grades in English, Law, History, Maths and Further Maths. I know that I am definitely dropping further maths, but am unsure as to whether I should also drop Maths?! I find it really boring, time consuming and the hardest of my subjects.
If I dropped both this would leave me with three full alevels and two AS levels. Is this enough to get into somewhere like UCL to study law? Part of me wants to drop both so I can concentrate on getting three top grades, whilst the other part is scared that eventually my place at universities would be jeopardize in favour of those with four full alevels.

    Hey barristertobe.

I studied Law at university and I think it is a bit of a judgment call. How hard are you finding Math, do you thinking continuing with it would seriously jeopardise your other grades. If so, then I can see why it would make sense to drop Math.

On the other hand, having A Level math is useful and would be a good complement to the arts subjects you are currently taking. I don't think it would hold you back from a career in law if you didn't continue with Math, but it would help keep your options open if you decided to pursue another career.

One thing that employers look at these days though is your GCSE grades in math, you need to have gotten above a C.

Re UCL, what have you achieved/are your predicted?

I find Maths the most difficult and time consuming subject. Although I am capable of getting an A I think, I'm worried that the time and effort I would put in to getting such a mark would effect my other grades but I'm just not sure how big of a risk this is or whether I will find it managable

I am predicted A/B in all subjects..

I had a look at UCL's website and it seems that they require

"A*AA plus pass in a fourth subject at AS level"

So it seems that it might make sense to drop math after AS so that you can concentrate on achieving those grades in your A2 subjects.

Saying that, I think with your predicted grades, it may be difficult to get in for Law at UCL given that it is such an oversubscribed subject these days. Do you think you can realistically achieve A*AA, if so then it might be worth talking to your teachers and trying to get predicted AAA if possible. It would make a big difference to your application. So difficult but definitely not impossible (especially if you have the support of your teachers/tutor).
