Best UAL or other foundation course for film/cinema?
I'm interested in Fine Art in general, but my ultimate goal is to direct films so I was wondering which of the foundation courses have the most to offer me in this respect? I should also mention that my first choice undergraduate degree following the foundation would be BA Directing at CSM.

    Thanks!

i wasn't aware that you needed a foundation course to go on to that kind of area at degree level? i know a couple of people doing creative film related courses that didn't do foundation, though they built up their portfolios themselves as they both create films/videos in their spare time. maybe there's a short course you can do instead of/as well as a foundation diploma if you don't feel that you're prepared to do a degree in the subject yet? i haven't heard of any foundation courses offering pathways in film - only photography or moving image/animation, and while i'm sure they'd let you do your own thing, you would possibly have to provide your own resources and teach yourself how to use software etc, depending on the kind of work you do.

I guess I just thought it would be easier to get into a program like CSM's BA Directing if I take a foundation, but maybe this isn't true. I was also thinking that the foundation would allow me to apply to some back-up BAs.

ah, it looks like they're asking for a different kind of foundation - this one? http://www.csm.arts.ac.uk/foundation-performance/ though i've never heard of anything like it before. yeah, taking an art & design foundation would definitely open up a lot of options for you.

I'm wondering whether the CCW or CSM foundation would cater more to making narrative films? I'm guessing the film/tv section of the design specialism at CCW is more about sets and things of that nature. It looks like at CSM you can specialize in video and photography which seems apt. I guess they're both good, but it's difficult for me to really understand the distinction.

actually, how about the foundation at LCC? there is a film pathway area, and within that area you'll be able to specialise even further. the difference with LCC is you choose a pathway to begin with, then you can narrow it down to a specific specialism later on if you wish, but basically all of the work you produce is going to be related instead of having to dabble all over the place.

Reading about the LCC courses they make a lot of sense for me, but I've heard some not so good things about the quality of education there, and it's difficult to really get a handle on the different UAL schools from abroad.
