Zurich Insurance incompetence costing me money
I've been with Zurich Insurance for years and its been OK. When I got my new car in April, I just carried on with them.

In May, they wrote to ask for copied of the V5 and my licence which I sent to them within 2 weeks of the date of the request as per the request which I did. The day after the end of the 2 week period, they sent a letter saying they have not got the documents and would cancel my insurance on the 14 June.

I then called them up telling them I sent the documents within the time allowed and told them they should look for them. The robot at the other end just kept repeating the insurance would be cancelled because they did not have the documents and I have to pay the cancellation fee and that was that. I did point out the week before had 2 bank holidays which would have delayed processing the mail but the robot didn't want to know.

Exasperated, I had to get insurance from another company to start on the 15 June which I did.

On the 16 June, I got a letter from Zurich saying the got the documents and asked me to pay an additional premium. I was surprised since I was sent a letter saying it was cancelled on the 14 June.

I called them up on the 18 June and found out the insurance has not been cancelled so now, I have 2 insurance policies on the same car, both costing me money and if I cancel one of them, I have to pay the cancellation fee.

So I have made a compliant to Zurich about their incompetence resulting in me having to pay a cancellation fee and I have ask them to waiver it. They haven't come back to me yet so I will update this when they have.

But if you are looking for insurance, I would not recommend Zurich because they really don't seem to care about their customers even if they been with them ages.

You should be able to cancel the second policy. You should have a 7-14 day cooling off period in which to change your mind.

You will have a 14 day cooling off period for your new insurance to cancel free of charge.

Not after the policy starts which it has.
You have a period of time after it starts to cancel it. Usually 7-14 days.
