Re: University crime rates revealedcongratulations on your brilliant powers of deduction and your complete inhability to read a tongue in cheek remark..(Original post by Clare~Bear)
Wasn't it obvious that London would have the highest crime rate? It's a big city and the poll includes crime within a 3 mile radius, so most of the crimes probably never invlove a uni student. -
Re: University crime rates revealed
I am a third year student at London Metropolitan and I have never encounter any safety issues during this time studying at my campus or when I was required to go to other campuses for any reason. I believe London Metropolitan is a very safe University with a very good security team.
As we all know, London is not the safest of the places to live. Crimes happen every day and it could happen at any place. It is not fair to judge and wrongly think that London Metropolitan is the most unsafe place to study. In my almost three years have not suffered from any type of crime at London Met and do not know any other student or member of staff that have gone through such experience inside the campuses. Therefore, inform yourselves better before making wrong assumptions about London Met or any other institution. Try to visit the Universities during open days and talk to the current students and you get a REAL idea of out student life! Good Luck to all!

Re: University crime rates revealed
It's important to remember before slagging off Universities that this is based on crime in the area, so has nothing to do with the University. As it says "The comparisons are based on crimes per 1,000 residents, taking place within three miles of the main campus - and include both student and non-student victims."
Naturally Universities in major cities are going to have higher crime rates within 3 miles than those in other places. Whilst London Met does rank top, LSE isn't far behind, and again both Manchester Met and Manchester rank similarly.
Anyone who feels superior because their not former Poly University ranks well on this and feels it shows that the likes of London Met are full of criminals provides great evidence that not all students at "good" Unis are that intelligent.
As someone else said, it's nice to see Nottingham not doing that badly. Interesting that Trent ranks better than University of Nottingham, despite the former having it's main campus in the city centre, although Uni of is on the edge of the city and still well within range of some of the less affluent areas of Nottingham. Either that or they decided Clifton or Brakenhurst was the main campus for Trent, one being right on the outskirts, the other in the middle of nowhere.
To be honest I think it would be more relevant to look at the crime rate where students are victims. I mean a Uni could be 3 miles from a high crime estate, but the main student area is nowhere near and student crime is low. On the other hand another the main campus might be somewhere nice but the majority of students live quite close to a bad area and student crime is high.
