Alpro Soya Organic- Why doesn't it have "added vitmains"?
I drink Soya milk daily and switch between the brands, I notice that all Soya milks have added vitamins, the main ones being E, D, B vitmains and Calcium.
I tried the Alpro Soya Organic (long life) one and the ingredients are : Water & Hulled Soya beans. But no vitamins addded, just says will reduce cholestral.
My question is why does the organic Alpro soya doesn't have added vitamins, whereas the non-organic one does?
It's been bugging me.

Re: Alpro Soya Organic- Why doesn't it have "added vitmains"?
You'd be best off dropping an email to the manufacturer rather than asking for opinions which might be completely wrong.
However if you think for a moment what organic tends to mean... Organic is often synonymous with natural i.e. nothing added nothing taken away. Thus if you add vitamins which weren't there in the first place the product would arguably cease to be organic in the eyes of some consumers which may put them off buying it. Some people are also really finicky about substances being added to their food so the company may be trying to capitalise on that given that soya milk is often consumed by health food enthusiasts. I have a friend who doesn't eat shop bought bread because folic acid is often added so she bakes her own. I know that sounds utterly bizarre to most people, but she's pretty set in her ways
I suspect it is something along those lines but like I said you'd get a more accurate response from emailing the company

Re: Alpro Soya Organic- Why doesn't it have "added vitmains"?
Thanks fire2burn for explaining it, your explanation sounds very logical and actually made me think. If the product contains only organic soya beans then the vitmains must be naturally present since it has not been refined or processed like the non organic soya milk. I also once read that the shorter the ingredients on a package, the more purer and less processed the product which I think is true since ive come across organic peanut butter with nothing added except 100% peanuts.
You make a good point, I will email Alpro Soya, it will be interesting to hear what they say

Yeah, you can't have something that's organic if it's fortified. This really annoys me because the soybeans or whatever could sneakily be genetically modified and there's no way of knowing really (since apparantly the only food nowadays that is guaranteed non-GM = organic foods).

Re: Alpro Soya Organic- Why doesn't it have "added vitmains"?Most soya milk producers, including Alpro, make a point of stating on their cartons that they use non-GM beans, since the majority of their customers are likely to be concerned about such issues.(Original post by Cherriesxo)
