it depends what you want to do. You shud probably have some sort of interest in a language otherwise u will just struggle or get bored with it. if you want to work for an ngo it might be a good idea to have language skills. 174,950,000 people speak arabic. It would be a good language to do.

Arabic is a pretty tough language to learn so it may get quite frustrating, but on the other hand its a beautiful language,its poetry and music is amazing. Also due to the current political state of the middleast having knowledge of the culture and language is invaluable in an international work place. Also it makes your degree far more interesting and will grab the attention of employers, At the end of the day how many people study a combination of economics and arabic!

I can already read Arabic, just can't speak it....Will that make it easier in the degree course?

id have thought politics, then do a floater, or take an extra course in arabic. im hoping to do politics & study of religions and take a floater in arabic.

if you can read arabic already then your further ahead then most people when they begin the course.. they dont expect you to have any prior knowldege of the language.
The understanding of what your reading will develope gradually, dont worry about it im sure you'll be fine, I have a few german and english friends that studied Arabic at uni and they speak and write really well now,
its like any language, practice makes perfect. its handy studying arabic in london theres so many arabs you can practice with.
