Pat yourself on back Thread
We all down play our achievements, because we don't want to appear boastful or conceited etc. Lets face it though, whether we have done an Access course, A levels or any other form of study, as mature students we have had to work really hard, not only at the work itself, but getting back into the academic mind set and also fitting it around our own established lives.
I thought I would start this thread so we can shout out just how proud we are of ourselves.
So I will kick it off, I started the access course last year and didn't know what to expect, I was 20 years out of education, by Christmas, I had 5 offers for all my chosen universities, and upon completion (this week) I have 51 distinctions and 6 merits. My university offer is 15 distinctions, so I am definitely in, and now onto the next chapter of my life. I am very proud of myself, I always knew I would pass, but never expected to do as well as I have, I can't wait for university now, of course then the hard work really starts but with my new found confidence and willingness to read and learn, I think I will do OK.
So what are your achievements, what are you most proud of? -
Re: Pat yourself on back Thread
54 distinctions and 3 merits. I really competed against myself and still feel frustrations towards one of my markers for the stain on my collection of D's. However i started this course 5 months ago with the goal of getting to University, which has well and truly been achieved.

Re: Pat yourself on back Thread
Well I never left education, it just followed me into maturity

Over the last 2 years I've been completing my HNC, which is what I need to go to uni this September. I need a merit, so far I'm on all distinctions except the last unit which I am waiting for my results on.
I guess what I'm most proud of is the fact I'm now putting effort into my work, up until 16 I put loads of effort into school, and my GCSE results reflect that. Then during A Levels I was able to drive legally and then drink legally, my social life exploded and school got pushed aside, my A grades turned to C's.
Since getting out into the real world and having to actually work for a living, my opinion has changed massively, I'm now so focused on getting good grades in what I do which I really like.
So I'm most proud that I am now putting the effort in, and it is so rewarding to get those top marks at the end of the year. -
Re: Pat yourself on back Thread
i'm another one that's annoyed at myself cos i too shoulda had straight distinctions. but my fault that i got lazy..so at the end i have 44 distinctions - 4 passes and the rest at level 2 (maffs) - to make a total of 60.
tell u the truth tho guys, i'm more surprised than proud. when i started the Access i figured i'd pass but that was all and i kept waiting for it to get difficult n it didn't seem to.
no doubt uni will be demanding but, i find i like to study (most of the times loool) and for so long as i don't get bored or lazy, i hope i'll be ok for uni too!
well done to all the guys that sweat their way thru this last year and good luck to all going forward...

It's inspiring to see how much effort people have put in to getting where they want to be.
By comparison I've only been out of education for 7 years. Have been working in that time, but my personal circumstances changed and I realised I was working a job I hated for no good reason, so why not go back to Uni and work towards something I want to do? I guess I'm proud of the fact I've bitten the bullet and am pushing myself out of the relative comfort and security I have.

Left high school with minimal GCSEs (1B and 3Cs) dropped out of sixth form and college twice I ended up being a Care worker for 5 years. I completed a British sign language level 1 during that time as well though. Fast forward to September 2011, aged 27 and having taught myself video production I decided I wanted to take it seriously and so with my portfolio of music videos and having self funded 2 short films I managed to get on to HNC media production level 4.... I have loved every minute of college!!! I finally know filmmaking is what I want to do. In the 10 modules I've managed to gain 3 merits and 7 distinctions which I'm more than surprised about!! I applied to university and the condition was that I'm to gain a pass in my current course so u know I'm already in but my course leader wants to see if I can get into year 2, so just waiting on my official results first. I look forward to university and the next stage

Re: Pat yourself on back Thread
I didn't believe that I passed the initial Maths assessment for my access course this time last year. I believed they must have mixed up my results with someone elses and have spent all year feeling bad for stealing someone elses place. Then I got 100% in my Maths exam at the end of the access course and didn't believe that either! I'm starting to think that I'm not as bad at maths as I thought. I recieved four university offers and achieved 87 credits at distinction, 3 credits at merit and 6 at level 2.

I am most proud of being receiving 2 unconditional offers for Wolverhampton uni in September. I left school 27 years ago with D and E CSE grades. I became a housekeeper in a hotel, in May last year my son was badly injured in a rta I gave up work to look after him. This has changed my outlook on life drastically. In Feb this year I returned to college doing NVQ level 2 Business Admin and ITQ level 2, then the ECDL, I've just finished NVQ level 3 Business Admin and ITQ level 3. I won the Second Time Around Award at college. If we only get one chance at life we have to make it the most fantastic life it can be. I'm so excited on the new journey i'm about to take. Look out world here I come

I'm proud of having got a degree. There were many times when I felt like giving up, but I'm glad I persevered.
