Re: Work experience with local mp?
It will depend slightly on the MP, how long they've been in politics, their background etc, but you could ask the obvious questions like when and why they decided that they wanted to be an MP, and how they go there. Also their favourite and least favourite bits about the job. I would also ask them their view on any current issues that you are particularly interested in, social care maybe, or the eurozone, or A Level reform, or anything else that's going on. Also, do you know if they are on any committees? You may find that out when you're there. You could ask them about that.

Re: Work experience with local mp?It will depend on the party, and also what faction of the party the MP belongs to. Certain Tories will want to see your enthusiasm for traditional values, smaller government, deeper public spending cuts, no HS2, scrapping of green taxes and wind farms and less Europe. While if you were going to see a Labour MP they would be salivating if you talked about Trade Unions, higher wages for working mums etc.(Original post by brighteyes123)
I'm going to the office of my local MP in a few days time to discuss work experience, I want to come across well so I've been thinking about some things I could say but i'm struggling, any help?!
Basically you'll have to do your research on the individual MP. http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/ visit this page for details on your MP and his/her interests in politics.
In addition to this you will have to show a decent standard of education and a genuine interest in government and current affairs.
Be advised though, work experience with an MP can be a hindrance on your CV for certain positions, especially if you're looking for work with your local council, who will expect you to be politically neutral. -
Re: Work experience with local mp?It's worth noting that whilst a huge number of grass roots fall into those cliches, most MPs are actually normal human beings forced to do stupid things by an ignorant electorate.(Original post by Samd603)
