Re: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) b65
I think that from what I can tell the B65 is a pretty generic engineering degree, where one would specialise with a masters on completion of the BEng. I've no idea which area of engineering I'd like to get into but I've chosen the modules on my sig

Re: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) b65HI there,(Original post by gold27)
hi all
iam new here iam looking at starting a b65
i what to know the best pathway and the best module to Choose if i what to get in to the civil Engineering
many thxs sam
T173 (L1, 30 points)
T207 (L2, 60 points)
T357 (L3, 30 points)
Would be the mainstay. There's a fair amount of civil in those (along with the big-standard fundamentals that all eng. disciplines get). I think MST121 is a requirement nowadays (L1, 30 points).
T191, T397 and two residentials (usually TXR120 and TXR220) are a requirement.
These would be the best places to start. Beyond that, it gets a little fuzzy. Some have chosen a mathsy route, some a design route, and some a mixture. Which you want will depend on your preference and future plans I reckon. -
Re: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) b65The OU says it's hours per week per 30 points, with 120 points being the equivalent of full time study. It can vary by a few hours per 30 points depending on prior knowledge, what grade you want out of it etc.(Original post by gold27)
hi all thxs for the replies i sent a messeg to the eng departmant to day to find out hows it going how much time u doing on it a week i work for my self as a builder so work all day and study all night
I'm doing about 28 hours for 60 points at the moment, but that's skewed a lot because a) I didn't take the prerequisite and b) I stopped part way through and I'm playing catch up.
What the OU says about time is pretty accurate if you're studying normally imo.
Don't forget to sleep if you take this on though

Re: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) b65
Hi,
I am planning on starting the BEng (Hons) in October. I have just completed a HNC in Civil Engineering and as I work in the Utilities Industry I intend to go down the Environmental Technologies Pathway.
I believe I will be eligible for 120 point credit transfer for my HNC leaving me 240 points to achieve the BEng (Hons).
Depending on how I find the difficulty in October onwards I am planning on starting 60 points worth of modules every October and February in an attempt to blast through it in under 3 years. Other than full time work I have no other commitments and I would like to get it done before that changes!
Does anybody know what modules I would be eligible to skip with a credit transfer? Will it be the L1 modules or the free choice modules?
Anyway, I am looking forward to it. I've really enjoyed doing my HNC part time and although very challenging at times, it's been a really rewarding experience and I'm sure the OU will be even more so!

Re: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) b65
I am starting the Engineering course also in Feb of this year! With plans to go via the (now old) IMechE accredited route.
I currently work full time and have commitments (mortgage but no kids) so it's going to be tough! I have only taken 30 credits this year as a taster of what I may be getting myself into. -
Re: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) b65Its best to just start off with 30 credits IMO and then you can always do more if you feel like you can cope with the studyload.(Original post by masrs)

Engineering sounds like its a hard degree from what i've heard, sure its just as hard at the OU too.
Good luck with your studies
