what antibiotics to get for a chest infection?
    what the title says really

my GP said if i want to make an appointment i'd need to wait at least a month, or i can come in at some point between 8-10 in the morning (never gonna happen)

google has diagnosed me with everything. apparently i have lung cancer, a collapsed lung, ashthma, testicular cancer, pneumonia and bronchitis - which i'll narrow down to "chest infection with a ballsack lump"

would i be able to roll in a pharmacy and grab some anti-biotics or do the ones i'm looking for require a prescription?

No antibiotics are prescription only mate.

over use of antibiotics is what lead to all these hospital suberbugs, so they're pretty tightly controlled now

And get a new GP, anyone who makes you wait a month clearly doesn't need you're custom, why can't you get down between 8-10

They're all POM - Prescription only medicines, like OSharp said it's their overuse that causes resistance.

Best just to go see a different GP or make the effort to go at 9, it's hardly that early.

And please don't buy them from the internet, it's pretty dangerous.

You can't buy antibiotics without a prescription! If you need them, then you can get to your GP between 8-10. Look up the names of antibiotics for chest infections by all means, but don't diagnose yourself.

Can't have an appointment for 1 month. Rubbish.

Can have an appointment, but can't be arsed to get up for an appointment before 10am. Makes far more sense...

You should go down to your local walk-in-center where you can see a GP at a time that suits you. You'll probably have to wait a while. Check the NHS website to find your nearest walk in center. They'll most likely prescribe amoxicillin or clarithromycin it is a chest infection.

rofl who's this kid tryna patronise me like he isn't spending his summer in a library reading about science

it's a walk-in clinic. i arrive somewhere between 8-10 and if they have space they tell me to come back later. there's no chance i'm getting up at 8, zero. it's in central london 10 minutes away from my house and it's busy as hell. you sit there next to a bunch of sweaty, diseased 90 year olds for hours to get seen by a doctor, it makes sense that the closest appointment is a month away - they're overbooked

if you sit there for just half an hour you're guaranteed to wake up the next morning with down syndrome

    are they even necessary?

would i be able to just see this one through without any medication? like when you catch a cold/flu and you just have to let your body do its thing (paracetamol/syrups don't do ****)

Cop on with your disgraceful comments. Either get up early and get seen or go somewhere else and register for a GP. Nobody can advise you on how to get antibiotics otherwise, as you need a prescription.

By kid do you mean the qualified doctor who is trying to offer you some advice in his spare time?

Would love to have repped both your posts but I've reached the limit for today

I'll come back tomorrow if I remember!

If you feel so ill and can't see a doctor (or refuse to see a doctor since the time isn't perfect, whatever) may I suggest that you shut up and go to bed? Staring at a computer screen getting upset because no one is giving you the answers you want will not make you feel better.

Also, speaking as an asthmatic who gets frequent chest infections, if you are really concerned about yourself you ring the health centre in the morning to get an appointment on the same day, and you go regardless of the time! They understand if you politely explain that you do need an appointment within the next 48 hours!
