Staying at home for the first year of Huddersfield uni 2012?
    Hey!

I am (hopefully) going to Huddersfield to study English with Creative Writing in September 2012 and I have decided to stay home. I live about a half an hour car journey away so it saves money and I didnt really fancy student accommodation! :s Just wondering if anyone else is doing the same? Kinda worried about freshers week and being involved so it would be nice to chat to people in the same situation and we could maybe meet up before hand!

Feel free to add me on facebook if you want to chat for any reason!

    Hi there,

I am also staying in for the first year and maybe the second, I live about 30-40 mins away in the Holmfirth area of Hudds. I am starting Architecture at the QueenStreet Studios site. I live in a countryside area and I like the outdoors a lot so I didn't want to move out, also it seemed a bit pointless spending on student halls, especially since Storthes is like only 10 mins from me.

Ah cool, its good to talk to someone in the same situation! Yeah it does seem a bit pointless, especially when you are saving so much money! So will you be going to the main campus for Freshers Week then?

    Hello there

I am going to Huddersfield Uni in Sept '12 I can't wait
I am also staying at home but I live in Brighouse which isn't far away only about7miles, I'll just cycle in which will save a lot of money.

It would be good to meet other people going to Huddersfield aswell, I am tempted to go to freshers but not knowing anyone there could be a bit off putting.

    Hey James!
Yeah, its saves so much money which can be used for taxis and bus/train fares and plus I want to go abroad for work experience and stuff so im going to use it for that!

Well apparently during the day you just meet the people on your course and there are loads of stuff to sign up for but then obviously at night it might be a bit awkward going out and not knowing people which is what im worried about :s Hopefully if we get to know people on our course, we can just go with them?

Yeah I want to do Camp America type jobs over the summer period

Ah the daytime sounds cool, the night time however could prove interesting lol.

So what's made you decide to study English with creative writing?

Hey. Im staying at home too, planning on coming on the bus every morning. I live in Bradford which isnt too far away. Im so nervous though because most people living in accommodation will already be familiar with each other.

I dont really know much about calligraphy James!

Yeah I think I will be taking the bus too Nadiya since I am from Bradford too! I have my own car so I might drive there for Freshers week but then when we start the course properly, it might be easier just to get the bus. I feel the same though, dont worry- I think most people even living in accommodation will feel pretty nervous anyway because they wont all make friends in the first few days!
    What course are you doing?

Hi. Which area of Bradford are you from if you don't mind me asking? I'm doing a chemistry degree if I get in lol. Lucky you, already having a car lol. I haven't even started my driving because of these stupid stressful a levels. Hoping to start learning in September though.

I've talked to one through the student room but she's staying in accommodation too. But I know a few people going to huddersfield in my local area n they're taking the bus so hopefully it wont be too bad. Any particular reason why u chose huddersfield uni? I chose it bcz I wanted to get out of town but I didn't want to move away from home. Plus I know too many people going to Bradford uni lol.

No sorry I don't know anyone doing that course.
The only people I know at the moment who are going to Huddersfield are the people on this thread.
