    Chemistry: extra costs
Are there any extra costs for a chemistry course?

    E.g. More expensive books, equipment

    Thanks in advance,
    sam.

I paid for some core textbooks and a molecular modelling kit. All in it was under £100, can't remember exactly. They weren't compulsory, but it does save going to the library.

    Nothing extra since.

There's the usual textbook costs, but they're not really any worse than any other course. Plus you can often get to the library quickly and grab a copy of the main ones, and if you're lucky you'll be able to renew them continually .

We had to purchase a lab kit, which was basically just a good notebook, goggles, lab coat, that sort of stuff. Wasn't terribly expensive. Equipment wise you shouldn't be expected to buy anything, as most of it will be far, far out of the reach of a student's budget!

Imperial definitely didn't charge for first lab coat / specs.

Yeah it probably varies place to place.

For "that sort of stuff", as far as I remember, it was a lab coat, goggles, a few marker pens, padlock for the lockers, a couple of hardback lab books. Think that was all of it.
