Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainThe same way physicists can talk about black holes and particles that have yet to be observed, by extrapolation and theorising using evidence that we have gathered.(Original post by T-Toe)
If neuroscientists aren't completely sure about how the brain works and operates, how can they be so sure about the brains possibilities or impossibilities? Jus curious.
Anyway, there are many theories for the causes of migraines. The most commonly thought source for the pain is various dilated blood vessels.
There are often environmental triggers of migraines - for example, stress and fatigue. -
Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainBecause I've had so many migraines this year (most of the time I don't even take any tablets or anything, they don't help much), but when I did take Migraleve I would only take 1 tablet because taking them made me feel worse, but my mum always tells me off when I take one

Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainrelatives with a history of migraines?(Original post by T-Toe)
Currently I feel no pain, just have very very light touch on the crown of my head. This is what's to be expected. I normally start to feel pain during the evening. I get stabbing sensations 3/4 times an hour but there's a soft tingling pain inside my brain throughout the night. -
Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainIf so, you really do need to go to the doctors and announce yourself as the first person in the history of neurology to ever be found with nerve endings in their brain.(Original post by T-Toe)
Well they've been some rare cases which have defied impossibility but I'll take your word for it.

Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainif that's what i think you're on about, my sister had it, it's fine. even if there is a tumour they can remove it with a relatively simple operation performed through the nose.(Original post by insignificant)
No I have it tomorrow. I have a particular hormone imbalance which can indicate a tumour on my pituitary gland.
as for MRI, it's just very noisy. they'll probably offer to play a CD or mp3 of yours through to cover the noise. it's like a tunnel which you will go head-first into on a sliding bed, and you don't have to do anything at all. the only important thing is to stay really still as they'll have to redo them which can take a while if you move during them
good luck with it! -
Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainIt took me a while to work it out. At first I took them too late, and they didn't have any effect. I don't think they made it worse though.(Original post by + polarity -)

Eventually I worked it out, and was able to pick up on the signs of it starting early enough to stop it with the Migraleve. 1 never worked, it wasn't enough.
How long have you tried with the Migraleve? I think all medicines take a while to settle into. -
Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainSince Sixth Form, I think, which would be 2007/8. I would usually nap straight after taking them, and I have a feeling that the nap was a bit more helpful than the pills. When I take Migraleve now sometimes (or most of the time) my head still hurts, presumably I've been taking them too late. Silly me(Original post by flown_muse)

Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainHmmm. Silly me, you've been on them for ages!(Original post by + polarity -)

I find if it's starting to hurt it's usually too late. I get aura before, light sensitivity and feel really sick, so that's how I know to take it, and I always take 2 just incase! -
Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainYeah, a prolactinoma. Apparently 1 in 10 people has one but you never know unless you see symptoms. Thanks(Original post by clarusblue)

Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainwould be extremely unlucky for somebody so young to get TN and it usually goes on a different nerve path(Original post by Vazzyb)
sounds like migraine, could be trigeminal neuralgia is its v severe, could be sinusitis if associated with runny noses or hayfever -
Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainIndeed.(Original post by T-Toe)
It feels as though there's a sharp pain ingrained in my brain :/ -
Re: There's a sharp pain in my brainOh God, I used to get these ones exactly, sometimes I would shake like a leaf, puke, wouldn't be able to feel my fingers, and lose sight in one eye....it's terrible! what's worse my parents wouldn't believe me argghhh. The only way I got through them, was to sleep and keep the tears at a minimum(Original post by han_nah)
I get migraines, been having them for about 5 years now. 2 years ago i used to get them at least 3 times a week. Now its just 1 every 2 weeks unless im stressed then i have 3 day migraines.
My migraines have auras. I lose sight in my left eye, my left side goes numbish, im sometimes sick and the headache is excruciatingly painful!!
And doctors have been NO help at all. They say the samething eveytime i go in "keep a diary and bring it next time"
Oh and on Monday i was sacked from my job for being off sick for migraines. Even though it says in my application that i suffer from them.
. Haven't had one in ages now
