Rough cost for repairing these minor damages on Seat ibiza?
Bought a car today, Seat ibiza SX 1.2 2004 in a metallic navy.
MOT renewed last month, tax till november. 44,000 miles 3DR hatchback
I payed a 10% deposit, handshaked to 1,800 more when i pick the car up on sunday. Advertised for 2,450? So he was probably aiming for around 2,200. Fair?

Couple of things i want to know how to sort out with the car as overall it all works perfectly tried it all out but these are the things i was feeling anal about.

    1. Noticed a couple of the disc brakes were quite rusty, are these able to be ''un'' rusted or should i have asked for a lower price?

    2. 3 inch scuff (no dent) dont think it went through to the metal just a bit of a nothing deep or hugely serious just a bit ugly, how much would that cost and if doable at home? Couple of other standard wear and tear scratches nothing serious.

    3. The stencils on the rear ie '' Seat'' ''Ibiza ''SX'' not present. Where would i buy these ?

    4. Number plate a bit worn on the rear, how much be to replace?

    5. Stains on the cloth seats, how to remove?

Cheers in advance, let me know if i should ask for a small slight drop or anything regarding disc brakes

    1) If you visit the storage yard of a new car dealer and look at the brake disc you'd find that there are rust on it too and these are brand new cars Most likely it is just a sign that the car had sat for an extended period of time, nothing serious, but still worth checking out if the brakes are still good.

    2) Doable at home, depending on the colour it may or may not match 100%

    3) Look on eBay, otherwise buy them used from a scrap yard?

    4) Less than a tenner should do it for a basic one.

    5) Depends on what stain it is Try using a vacuum cleaner, then a steam cleaner and then use some upholstery cleaner plus some elbow grease.... most stains will come off or else a set of seatcovers isn't that much

    1. The rust will clear as soon as you start using the car regularly - it is unavoidable when a car is left standing outside.

    2. Sounds like it will polish out with compound. If the scratch is particularly bad, start with coarse compound followed by a finer grade compound. You don't need a machine polisher for this - you can get pretty good results applying it by hand.

    3. eBay or Seat Dealer

    4. £20

    5. Should come out easily with a wet vacuum - unless you have one of these yourself, you'll probably need have the car valeted professionally. Although make sure that you find a valeter that actually does the job properly (Polish car wash is unlikely to meet this criteria).

Anyone have any idea about car speakers? I'm fairly technical with electronics but when it comes to cars... no idea where anything goes, how its fitted, whether theyll be too overpowering, how much to spend, whether to replace manufacturers speakers etc

Are you going to DIY, or taking it to a garage?

1- round a hundred quid to put new pads on. "Unrusting", well, IF the discs are in good shape beneath the rust, a bottle of rust remover is round about a tenner.

2- Scuff - Scratch remover for about a fiver. Borrow a heat gun (If you know how to use it) for if there is a dent.

3- Ebay. No idea how much they cost.

4- Uh. Not sure. Something within the lines of 30 quid.

5- Depends on the stains, what they are and how deep they are.
If it's just cosmetic, take it to a car wash for a full Valet. They charge around 40-60 quid. That's interior, exterior and engine. Makes the car feel fresh. I recommend that when buying a used car.

It's called a Seat Ibiza badge

As for scratch, there is a pen applicator type called Fix It Pro by Simoniz, it's decent as long as you are not looking for perfection.

I wouldn't suggest using rust remover, as it often leaves a coating (e.g. phosphoric acid will leave an iron phosphate finish). It's pretty flaky so not really what you want between your pads and discs. Best bet would be just to use some wire wool if it's only light rusting (no pitting), and ideally before using the brakes so you don't cover the pads in rust. A quick wipe with brake cleaner afterwards wouldn't hurt either.

Paintwork can be improved, the question is how much time and effort you want to go to. For a very minor scuff try a bit of T Cut or rubbing compound, then a scratch fix pen (available in Halfords amongst other places), possibly with a bit of filler as well, then it's on to local respraying (+filler, flatting back, multiple coats etc.) which is a lot more work but you can get pretty good results.

Number plate was about £15 last time I had one made up.

I agree. Apologies for not taking that into consideration earlier.

Best advice I can give is to join the seat Ibiza owners club....thats what I did with the Celica and its been an invaluable font of useful knowledge and contacts specific to your car

The way I'd see it, theres nothing really "damaged" about your car. All cars appear to have rusted brake discs when they've been stationary for some time. Drive around a bit for a while and it'll be gone. All the other stuff is asthetics that I wouldnt really bother with, but if you really have to...

    2) as long as its not dented all you need is to paint over it... (enter cost of a tiny bit of paint)

    3) ebay

    4) ignore; its a gov. thing (assuming you are talking about the license plate)

    5) i suppose you could try to scrub it using the stuff you have at home. worst case scenario, you remove the seat and send it to a proffesional (no idea the cost)
