Primary education
Hi,
In the future I'm hoping to be a primary school teacher and I'm currently in year 12 looking at my options. I went on a summer camp at UCLan and loved it there so that's where I want to go but they don't do primary education with QTS so I'm thinking about doing an RS degree combined with education studies, is this possible? Does it have enough prestige to get onto a PGCE course a year later? Are combined degrees as good as a single honours degree?
Thanks in advance,

Re: Primary educationIf UCLan offer an RS and education studies, then yes, it's possible for you to study that degree. In terms of getting onto a PGCE course, it isn't about how "prestigious" your degree is - it's about whether you have the experience, knowledge and skills to be an outstanding teacher. People enter teaching from all walks of life and most people train at the university closest to them. A PGCE is a PGCE and it qualifies you to teach - where you did it is irrelevant.(Original post by pixbon)

If you want to stay close to home have you also looked at the University of Cumbria?
You can do primary education with QTS there and study in Carlisle.

If you're willing to go a bit further away from home you could also consider Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Durham on the east coast who have strong teaching. Then in the north west, there's Edge Hill and also Liverpool Hope and Manchester Met who are both strong teaching universities.
