I was wondering what people's experience with obtaining a provisional licence as a disabled driver. I applied for my provisional Five weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. The online application also didn't give me a chance to expand on my disability i.e. I just had to tick the box that said about a physical disability that can affect limb movement etc
I was just wondering how long it took for anyone else's licences to come through? I know they need to do medical checks but my impression was that they would contact you to get info about your disability first? I may be wrong..
Mine arrived quite quickly considering that they must make checks before issuing the licence. The problem you end up with is if you fail a test; they send you a snotty letter about two weeks later implying that you must have failed because you're more disabled than you told them about, and threaten to revoke your licence if you don't comply with medical enquiries. I responded as they requested and also said I had another test booked, was it ok to go ahead? They didn't respond and the waiting list was three months at the time so went ahead anyway. Passed the test and they withheld the licence, and eventually (just to confirm how slow the medical dept is in that situation) I received my licence. About a week later I got another letter from the DVLA saying they'd decided that I met the medical standards and a licence would be issued as soon as possible.
