Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivBut you wouldn't get that great life experience, community etc etc, would you? the £90k isn't only for lessons and boarding, it's for a whole package...(Original post by Blutooth)
Any place that charges 90 grand a year in tuition fees is not a school, it is just a playground for the ultra-rich and well connected. Let's put it into perspective You could get 3 tutors working full-time for 90 grand...and possibly some more, and I'm sure you could get just a good if not better education at quite a few British private schools. -

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivYeah but cancer research would probably rather have £180k and the kid could go to a state school.(Original post by ArthurWinterthurII)
No, not really. I could still send a kid to Beau Soleil and still give, say £90k to Cancer Research and another £90k for some small investment etc etc. Hence why I said 'if you had the money' in the title (meaning, if £90k was peanuts to you).
Plus the price doesn't automatically mean its good.
I don't want kids so this will probably not have to be something I'd have to think about in the real world. -
Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivCurrently (as of 2012), Beau Soleil is the most expensive (charging £90k/$144K) with Le Rosey only charging (circa £60k/$106k).(Original post by chickenonsteroids)
Goddammit wikipedia
which one is the most expensive? I don't like being confused

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivNo, but everyone who goes to a private school charging 90 grand a year is.(Original post by ArthurWinterthurII)
Because everybody who has more cash than average is a 'stuck up fu**er' right? -
Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensiv
I can't imagine sending my children to any private/public school. I guess a lot of people tend to want to bring their children up in the way they were brought up, so I think I'd rather send my kids to state school, because I think going to a state school gave me more of a taste of the real world and a good and balanced grounding - I'd want my children to experience the same so no, in answer to the original question.
Of course, someone who has been to private school would probably disagree - like I said I think you often want to bring your children up in the same way you were. -
Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivCancer Research can have what I damn well give them. It doesn't matter what they would rather have lol. If somebody had a good amount of cash, they could probably set up their own private cancer research (many probably already have etc etc). It is clearly known that private education is better than state education (not because of the pupils, but merely because of the incompetence of the state itself).(Original post by minimarshmallow)

Currently (as of 2012), Beau Soleil is the most expensive (charging £90k/$144K) with Le Rosey only charging (circa £60k/$106k).

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivYou'd get something mush worse, I'd wager. Imagine the sense of entitlement some of the kids must have knowing their parents were spending 90k. The place would almost certainly be its own bubble, with its own unreal atmosphere. Any parent in their right mind knows that you can get great schooling for like 30 grand a year or at Eton or Harrow- where several British PMs have been educated. So why you'd send your kid to a place that charges 90 grand a year I don't know- unless it's so that your kids can socialise and interact with children who are just as astronomically wealthy.(Original post by ArthurWinterthurII)

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensiv
No way, and I say that as a private school student. I wouldn't want to send my child to any private school, if I could help it. 90k is just ridiculous though and expensive doesn't always equal good. I can't imagine any standard of education worth that much.

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivWhat does that even mean? People seem to presuppose private education is all secluded away from the rest of the world. In fact, good private education would provide more opportunities, more life experience and more social life and on the whole produce an all-rounded person.(Original post by abc:))

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensiv
Say if I had all this money, and I'm guessing we're saying success goes with that, too.
Since I just went to state schools, I would've done pretty well for myself...
So that would just prove that you can do amazing with state education (especially since my school is in special measures!)
So what's the point? They could just work like I did!
Obviously this is all hypothetical... -

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivI spent 10 years living in Harrogate. There is a large population of wealthy people there and a large majority of them are indeed stuck up ****ers.(Original post by ArthurWinterthurII)

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivAnd why shouldn't they have it? An exceptionally rich and successful man can choose to be humble if he wishes, but he doesn't have to be. If he chooses to be proud and grandiose, he's clearly entitled and established to do so.(Original post by Blutooth)

If you were astronomically wealthy, why not send the children to schools such as Le Rosey and whatnot. What's the point of Eton, when I could send the kid to Beau Soleil? The education at the latter is still rigorous and top but with much more add-ons and extras than the former. -
Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivI think I mean in terms of being exposed to people from all walks of life, not just the rich and the educated. Eventually you are going to go out into the world to work, and come into contact with all kinds of people, and if you've spent your life boarding in an institution made up exclusively of children whose parents have thousands of pounds to spend on them every year, I think it could come as a bit of a shock. In fact this is exactly what happened to one of my flatmates when she came to university from a private school [she has been working with ordinary families in the community and is finding it a bit of a culture shock].(Original post by ArthurWinterthurII)

I can see why you could argue good private education could provide more opportunities, however I don't see how it could provide more life experience or a better social life? -
Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivLet's say you suddenly won £65million yesterday night. Wouldn't you suddenly begin to feel a bit 'different', a bit more 'superior' if you will (unless of course, you were excellently moral in a Christian/Buddhist etc sense and had philosophies of humility and whatnot).(Original post by mikeyd85)

Re: If you had the money, would you go/send your children to one of the most expensivSee, sometimes people who are privately educated have this idea that it's so much better for the individual...(Original post by ArthurWinterthurII)

In teaching standards, sure.
But somehow I don't think being surrounded by people who all have their level of wealth in common as you is such a good idea. At least, not a better idea.
