Poll: easiest grad-entry medical school to get into?
Before everyone rips the sh!t out of me, I know they're ALL hard to get into, which is the whole point of medicine - BUT if you are stuck with a 2.1 and not a 1st, went to KCL and not Oxbridge ie. you're an Average Joe, where is the place you can apply with the best chance of getting in?
I'm not sure what you can glean from the stats, because Southampton has a crazy low acceptance rate compared to Warwick (32 applicants per place vs 8 applicants per place for Warwick), yet their entry requirements are much lower.
I think we can assume that everyone thinks Southampton will be easy to get into, so everyone applies there, and everyone gets rejected.
Your opinion may be based on the difficulty of meeting the entry requirements vs the percentage chance of getting in having met those requirements.
Anyway, a poll is up, fire away.Last edited by cactus_farmer; 20-06-2012 at 14:46. -
Re: Poll: easiest grad-entry medical school to get into?
This is a bit of a silly question. Clearly if you get 70 in your GAMSAT you will have a far higher chance of getting an interview at SGUL than someone who has 59. Similarly if you get 700 on your UKCAT, you're far more likely to get an invite to the selection centre at Warwick than someone with 650.
There is no objective measure of "easiness" and considering all the GEPs have different requirements and selection policies, it's really down to the individual and their personal qualities. This is especially true for the interview stage.
As for Southampton, I'd argue that it's the hardest GEP to get into as they don't interview. So there is no cutting down of applicant numbers, you're in competition with all 1000 odd people from the get-go.
Bottom line, grad entry is not easy and trying to play the statistics game is futile. Strategise and apply where you're think you're best matched to.Last edited by Democracy; 20-06-2012 at 14:36. -

This is ridiculous.
Some applicants will have a higher chance of getting in one place than someone else will, this doesn't mean this place is easier to get into. Applicants get into the medical school they are closest matched to.
@OP - the admissions criteria is different at all the medical schools for a reason - the different universities place emphasis on different things in order to allow applicants to play to their strengths. If you have a strong UKCAT - you'll be in for a shot at Warwick/Newcastle/KCL etc.
All the best getting in though mate.
