What is worng with tower blocks?
Why do high rise flats have a bad reputation? Especially as they house many people in a small amount of space, better views (depending on how high you are). In other countries they don't have such a bad press so why do they here?
I live on the first floor of a low rise. -
Re: What is worng with tower blocks?
It's not high rise flats generally that have a bad reputation (lots of property development is very upmarket, glossy high rise flats) it's the 1960's concrete tower blocks that were built for and are still used as, council housing. They have a bad reputation but not because they are high rise but because they are ugly, largely run-down and associated with crime and poverty.

Re: What is worng with tower blocks?
I can't speak for all of them but a lot of them are too cramped and have very serious damp problems due to poor ventilation. They can also be used as suicide spots which obviously isn't very nice! Then there's issues of getting out in an emergency some of them don't have decent emergency exits either so if your living on the 15 floor and there's a fire on the only stair case you'r stuffed. Also on a superficial note they make the area look untidy and usually placed slap bang in the middle of nowhere!
The one near me I look at and think surely they have plenty of space to have built two smaller blocks which would eradicate most of the safety and hygiene problems as well as making the place a bit nicer and less cramped.
