How to get proof of my NI number?
    Hey TSR

I know what my NI number is, but I can't find any documentation that states it which I need to sign on with certain recruitment agencies. I remember getting a card carrying it when I turned 16 but that is such a long time ago and I have moved so much since that I doubt we have it now.

I've been on the job centre websites and the NI number website but I can't seem to find info on how to get proof of your NI number if you've already got one... They don't seem to have a helpline or anyone you can talk to, last time I went into my local Job centre the guy at the desk proudly proclaimed that "gone are the days when you could walk into the job centre and speak to someone who would help you get a job" to which I was like "So even the Job centre is reducing the amount of jobs it has to offer the country!!!

Anyway, I really want proof of my NI number but I can't find a P45 or anything and I'm frustrated that the websites aren't really helping me work it out. I mean, if they want you to do it all yourself, they should make it a bit easier!!!

So has anyone else been in this situation and do any of you know what to do?

I lost my card about a month after I got it. If you go to the job centre with ID like passport, they should be able to give you the number. I didn't bother getting the card replaced.

If you’ve lost or can't remember your number, you might be able to find it on official paperwork like:

-your P60 (end of year tax statement, given to you by your employer)
    -a payslip
-a copy of your annual Self Assessment tax return
    -other official correspondence

If you still can't find your number, you can ask HMRC to confirm it by:

-completing and returning form CA5403-Your National Insurance number
-contacting the National Insurance Registrations Helpline on 0845 915 7006 (lines open from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday)

HMRC cannot confirm your National Insurance number by telephone. They will write to you instead.
    Information from http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTax...ance/DG_190057

The form they refer to can be found at http://search2.hmrc.gov.uk/kb5/hmrc/...Xc&formid=3643
