hey guys im looking into doing investmnent banking and i was wondering if i get into the top 100 IB's how much will the salary be?
also, if i was to go uni of york for economics would i still be able to go to the top 50 ib's?
First of all I doubt there are even 100 IB firms in the UK, other than the mainstream bulge brackets there are perhaps a few dozen which specialise in particular markets...If I was asked to throw a number it would probably be in the ballpark of 40.
York does not particularly stand out from the crowd and although it is a very good uni...IB's want the cream of the education system and hence in my opinion at least your prospects will unfortunately be quite low unless you've got talent.
The main intake by the bulge brackets are from about 6 of the top unis (Oxbridge, LSE, UCL / Kings, Imperial, Warwick) give or take a couple which people always claim should / should not be on that list.
The boutiques and smaller firms will tend to widen their fishing net very slightly and perhaps consider the Top15 (pointless trying to list these) with first class honours.
