Stupid/silly exam question?

My friend was furious the other day! In his media exam he had to watch (3 times) and analyse a twilight film trailer!
In a biology past paper, you got a mark for writing 0, you didn't even need to do any calculations. It was almost like a trick question. In other parts of the paper you have to write a whole sentence to get a mark, so we were questioning ourselves about just putting '0' in an A2 biology paper.

What silly/stupid exam questions have you seen? This is for silly/stupid questions/sources, but if you have some rediculously wrong questions/sources then you can add them. Like in my geography exam last year, they gave numbers for speeds of water in a river. According to AQA rivers can defy the laws of physics as the numbers they gave were impossible as the fastest area was labelled as one of the slowest!Last edited by Clare~Bear; 20-06-2012 at 17:48. -
Re: Stupid/silly exam question?Am I missing something here but usually the fastest are on the outside of a river bend (erosion)? And I remember the slowest being on the inside (deposit of sediments).(Original post by Clare~Bear)

Re: Stupid/silly exam question?yeah, but that's only comparing the two sides. There's something called the thalweg thats slightly off-centre as you look at the cross section thats the very fastest bit. But they'd put the speed of that as being (one of) the lowest.(Original post by TheGrinningSkull)

Re: Stupid/silly exam question?I see, so were they talking about a straight valley/river and not a river bend?(Original post by Clare~Bear)

Re: Stupid/silly exam question? It's actually called the thalweg. Awkward.(Original post by Clare~Bear)

Re: Stupid/silly exam question? It doesn't matter, it applies to any cross section of a river.(Original post by TheGrinningSkull)

I haven't seen it written down for nearly a year. My geography teacher this year hadn't even heard of it.(Original post by hothedgehog)

Re: Stupid/silly exam question?
I was helping my friend with a GCSE maths past paper and there was a really stupid question about a man and a truck. A guy was standing next to a truck and the question literally asked how tall the truck or man was. There was nothing else provided...no cm to feet or anything. -.-

Re: Stupid/silly exam question?
This isn't A-Level (it's GCSE) but question 1 (a) was such a stupid question on this paper:

(stupid in the sense that it was such an easy question)Last edited by usycool1; 20-06-2012 at 17:25. -
Re: Stupid/silly exam question?I remember that, I spent literally 10 minutes looking at that question thinking 'there is absolutely no way that is the answer'(Original post by usycool1)

Re: Stupid/silly exam question?Worrying, that's one of the most basic bits of rivers. Time for a new geography teacher?! I think so.(Original post by Clare~Bear)

I wish. I'm not sure what his Bachelors is in specifically, but perhaps it was more to do with human geography, but still. And his PhD is something to do with Christianity and Islam in Pakistan! I complained about this on another thread and I got a ton of negs for it! Literally about -20 points in total
and the one +rep I got was from someone with red gems!

Re: Stupid/silly exam question? You can have a cross section of any point along a river, it doesn't have to be straight, and i'm pretty sure thalwegs are all along the course.(Original post by TheGrinningSkull)
I'll take that as a bend, so the thalweg would be near to the outside as it follows, in most cases, the line of fastest flow. -
Re: Stupid/silly exam question? That's fair enough. I didn't say thalwegs weren't along the course, don't know where you got that from. I haven't seen the paper and you were vague so I can't really comment. :L It just sounded off.(Original post by Clare~Bear)
