Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? (Part 2)I had mine fitted already, so same costume is unlikely.(Original post by Essex Girl)
Intend to hold onto mine - which is now falling apart lol. I did hear rumours that we may have to wear the same in the Closing due to cuts in costume budgets? I do hope not!

I'm desperately trying to think of an occasion when I could wear my dungarees again. Painting the lounge? -
Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? (Part 2)it Rick Smith of Underworld, a great guy Bosh and a hoy!!!!(Original post by Cazzaraz)
Today is the big day! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!
Also, calling all drummers - who is the guy who does your cues? The 'Bosh', 'Hoi', 'Keep it going' guy?! THere's a lot of appreciation for his voice over on the NHS facebook group, and we want to know who he is! Somone said Toby, and then someone else said Rick...? -
Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? (Part 2)
Hi,
I've just got an email about doing para 98 WHIRL. Can anyone fill me in as to what this is as I have got the schedule and it has already started rehearsing. I have just done the Opening Ceremony and am so excited about this now!! -
Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? (Part 2)it was marked as 'betty' on the under stage map(Original post by commonliner)
I was one of the marshals in the centre ring protecting the cauldron, literally 2-3m away from it (yes it was getting warm very quickly once it was lit). Only at the last two dress rehearsals they lowered the floor, but they had the protective cover on throughout. At the Saturday tech dress rehearsal, they rehearsed removing the cover, but didn't have the floor lowered. So no indication at all.
I hear they rehearsed the cauldron lighting at 3am.

We didn't. The drummers/marshals celebrated a bit on the field of play at the cauldron and mobbed Steve when he came down (have a video of that) until staff were desperate to kick us out of the Stadium, and then we had an after party at the Railway Tavern. I left early to catch the tube around 5.45am...
Drummers also got to keep EVERYTHING if they wanted to: The smelly, dirty Industrial Revoution outfit incl. boots, the Primark-based marshalling outfit incl. these strange uncomfortable white shoes, IEM belts...and the drums! Needless to say, I took everything with me. Walking through London at 6am carrying a huge decorated bin is quite a surreal experience, I tell you. People were staring, and some Games Makers who were at the Monday rehearsal recognised the drum and we chatted a bit.
The bin is now in my bedroom and boy, it's huge (biggest of the bass bins). Remind me again, why did I take it with me...? ;-)
hi tim
I left the pub at 6am and got home at 7.30am, a couple reconside me as I was wearing our white sweatshirts and I told them yes I was in the opening ceremony and was just getting home!!. i am a little guttet that I was not on tv for our drumming as I was the wrong side of our group saw the dever guy was in 3 times. I did see myself in the marsalling as GB team came round so my mum was pleased. am still very high about the whole thing have order the music cd. see you drummers Wednesday -

This interesting footage gives those of us yet to perform in the Stadium, an insight as to what it's really like :-

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? (Part 2)Hmm - no I was NOT responsible (nor anyone from TSR) but this is the EXACT view I also had for much of the footage(Original post by Dancerwoman)

.
then a bit later there is a view of my backside in the brown check dress carrying turf.
Great to be able to relive part of the role I played, although I then moved on to a different part of the field of play.

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? (Part 2)
Still on a high from Friday, I've just accepted a dancing role in the Paralympics Opening Ceremony 98-WHIRL. But I notice I've missed 13 hours of rehearsals
so I'd be very grateful if any 98-Whirlers could possibly PM me and give me an idea of how much choreo I'll have to catch up with - I'm not the fastest learner of steps.

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? (Part 2)
Hello everyone!
Understandably it's a lot quieter on here now. Those of us in the coming ceremonies like me who have been happy to read instead of post, will have to keep up the excitement and intrigue.
I saw the dress rehearsal on Wednesday night, straight off the shuttle from France. My partner kindly dropped me near Orpington and I managed to get there in time, courtesy of no problems whatsoever at the eurotunnel. My mouth was open from the moment I entered the olympic village. It then opened further when I entered the stadium to see the wonderful scenes growing slowly before our eyes and then when the drummers and the scene changing started......... well, absolutely amazingly brilliant. Well done all of you, especially with all those rehearsals in the rain.
Our POC rehearsals seem to be going well. Last night about half way through, I felt I had learned everything and felt really confident........ but not for long when we had a reminder that props need to be used and not just carried!!! Look forward to seeing all the 87As again later this week and the 87Bs very soon. -

BTW, would love to read about which bits you were all in, please!
I was in the NHS section (47) (and several others on here were too but they can identify themselves to you), which I thought was amazing and didn't think it could have been "lame" without the addition of the puppets (which were necessary as this was a child's nightmare after reading before sleep). The other sections were outstandingly brilliant on their own (loved the energy of Pandemonium and Thanks Tim - the drummers were outstanding throughout). But everyone deserves a pat on the back from the visionaries and directors to the volunteers in whatever role. The commitment, dedication and blood (NHS particularly with beds ramming in to your legs and ankles every rehearsal), sweat and tears each and everyone of us brought to that opening ceremony made it what it was. A well deserved round of applause to you all. I so look forward to the OCC, POC and PCC - the last two of which I will be involved in too. Bring it on!!Last edited by MsIs; 30-07-2012 at 15:37.
