Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? No matter how tempting it is next week, don't rush into rehearsal with that knee of yours. Yeah, I know it's frustrating (last week I spent the majority of "sitting around" time putting my leg up) but it's best to play it safe.(Original post by Bignic12)
Signed off work for another week and off to physio later this morning......knee is making some progress
Getting so excited about getting into the stadium next Thursday......great to hear the stories of those already in there.
Great news of the recent offers and how exciting its all sounding. Almost starting to get a little depressed wondering what will happen when its all over
BTW, my calf in my leg is 90% better know but I'm still wearing my bandages on both legs at rehearsals as a precautionary measure. Yes, my legs feel as if they're in a sauna but want to protect them against sudden impact. -
Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony?Interesting.....is she a 9am rehearsal as it sounds to me that it could be your daughter's group that will be joining us 63As and 63Bs. We were told thousands. A couple of us were pretty gutted because we thought we (63As / 63Bs) would be one of the smaller groups performing(Original post by Essex Girl)
Daughter has her first 1 : 1 on Sunday and she is in 65TP - closing ceremony. Lots in that section too from what I understand as well as children.
She will be driving too - so hopeful to pick up any stragglers from the tube station as she will be coming in alone from a family 80th party in Suffolk.
EG
Oh well, can't have it all I guess.
Getting a little envious hearing the stories about the rehearsals in the Stadium. Unfortunately, the way things stand, according to the times and dates on the schedule, the only times we (in 63A / 63B closing) will ever get a chance to be in the Stadium, will be at the actual closing ceremony itself on the 12th August

I suppose it will be the case of "savouring the 10 minute moment"

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony?
Hi Guys
Thought I would say hi after meeting the famous 'Flakeydom' at my first audition, so as you can gather I am a 41er ! Its taken me a while to read through this amazing thread slowly bringing myself up to speed with all the dramas, sadness, happiness and excitement that has happened to you all over the past 8 months.
My sister is also in the Olympic Opening and Closing, she is a 51 - PLB (as she tells me a high profile and glamorous role !!!) The PLB stands for placard bearer. She was at the stadium last night and said she had an amazing time and loved watching all the drummers who she thinks have a really wicked role. My sister has food allergies and she was well catered for last night, but she had informed her cast co-ordinator before, so it may be worth firing off a quick email to your cast co-ordinator regarding your food allergies before you go.
My boyfriend is the Paralympics Opening and Closing section 90B - yes I did put him forward when they asked for men with rythm without asking him.
With regards to the articles appearing in the media, I got asked by a local paper if they could do an article on me which then did. I rang casting and they were really lovely and helpful, they send you an email which outlines what you can and cannot say and what information you can give, this changes as the date gets nearer and more info is leaked. I asked them if they wanted to see a proof of it before it went to press and they said no, they were happy if I was with the article and as long as it puts the whole Olympics in a positive light, sometimes they ask you to mention particular facts etc but they tell you this in the email. I think they now want the general public to really get behind it and us! So if you are approached don't panic!
Congratulations to all those who have just heard/ been upgraded and fingers crossed for all of you still waiting the hear.
Can't wait now to go to the stadium and to meet some of you! Sorry for long post, just had a few things to say!!! -
Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? Thanks Dancerwoman, I will be playing it really safe next Thursday! I shall be using my crutch even if its a placebo by then and my knee brace......have to be there as all our rehearsals are compulsory!(Original post by Dancerwoman)

Commonliner was saying that there was a few peeps on crutches at his rehearsal last night so they are used to us walking wounded! Also my next rehearsal after the 28th is the 14th July so another 2 weeks of rest and then its full on for over a week with back to back days and possibly all dayers too
Its coming...... -

Interesting what you said about talking to the press. The response you got from Casting was completely different to mine. My cast co-ordinator replied yesterday with a definite 'no' as I posted previoiusly.
"We have been checking with our communication department and they have finally told us that unfortunately you cannot talk about your participation in the Ceremonies until the end of it. Once it is over you can talk about it as much as you like!
This is the rule for all groups involved in order to avoid any problem and misunderstanding and in order to maintain the secret!"

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony?Love this article - gave me goosebumps thinking about being involved in this amazing event! Thank you for the link.(Original post by commonliner)
Very apt to start page 500 just after the first stadium rehearsal finished.
There's a nice piece on someone from DB's team in the Liverpool Echo today. My favourite quote is:
Full article
Cannot wait for the stadium tonight! Those of you who were there last night, how long after your given start time did you actually start the rehearsal? I'm just wondering whether I need to try and leave work early or whether I'll be ok arriving after the given start time. Is it the same as Dagenham, when rehearsals generally started later than the 'doors open' time?
Congrats to everyone who has had offers lately, and especially to Mola being upgraded from understudy - as a fellow ex-understudy I know it must have been a long and hard wait to be fully cast - great news that you are now officially in! -

I assumed they may do them between the opening and the athletics starting?
or just on the day - SCARY! -

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony?
You could say that, the funny thing is my sister and I didn't tell each other that we were each auditioning for the ceremonies, but in a strange twist of fate we both picked the same first audition date and it wasn't until we doing a dance I looked up thought I recognise you - it was my sister. We both had different 2nd auditions and her group were one of the first to find out and my group were one of the last !!!! that was a hard few weeks wish I had found this forum then.
The article was done on me about 8 /10 weeks ago and it really was just about me travelling to London and being very excited, I didn't go in to any further detail, although I know the editor of the paper very well who is very pro olympics. I think depends on who you speak to at casting, as the evening standard article was early this week, I guess they are allowing some people to do articles!
*** For Bignic and her injured knee, I injured my knee and ankle which ended up having to have surgery on and I was out of action for months even now it gives me some pain and problems, but my physio told me to buy an ice/heat boot (it fits the ankle but can be undone to wrap around the knee) you can either put it in the freezer or microwave depending on what you want, I found ice the best for reducing swelling and pain. Because the boot has velcro straps you can even sleep in it which is were we also do damage as we twist and turn in the night according to my sports physio. Tescos Direct do a Kelly Holmes version for just under £10 and I use mine all the time, although I have a very active job, If is good enough for Kelly then I guess its good enough for us ! I'm taking mine to rehearsals as I think us 41rs are going to be on out feet loads ! -
Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony?Great that the famous Flakeydom has got you to join our family! I have lost of count of the number of people who have said that they would not have known what to do without the camaraderie and support of the forum and it certainly has been a rollercoaster ride for many! It looks like you and your sister have fabulous roles - well done. I look forward to meeting you at some point Awsum!(Original post by Awsum)

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony?
Thank you for the congratulations everyone! I went from being utterly despondent in the first half of my rehearsal (understudies can be a bit lonely as you don't really get to gel with a group) to actually feeling like I belonged there. Brilliant. Actually looking forward to 1:1 now :-)

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony? No idea! I thought it would be at the 1:1 venue. Ah but could it be one of the dress rehearsals before the opening is for the closing!..there is 3 on my schedule????(Original post by maclondon)

Re: Did anyone else get an audition for the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony?
Hubby has just spoken to his great aunt and in passing just happened -for some unknown reason
- to mention that I was in the Opening Ceremony. She said that she and her dad went to the Opening Ceremony for the 1948 Olympics. They lived near Wembley and her dad went to the stadium on the morning of the Opening ceremony and bought two tickets fot it.... and she still has the programme. If only it was so easy nowadays!
