They're essentially identical apart from the face but I can't decide which one I prefer, opinions?

It'd be easier if there was a poll I'd say the second one because the face is easier to see (black numbers/hands)

The main reasoning is that I quite like the classical style of Rotary and wanted to get a gold watch as the money for the watch is a present from a deceased family member of which I wanted to get the reverse of the watch engraved.

How so? I was generally put off most watches as they all seemed too crowded with crap I'll never use

I don't like either, both look from a distance would look very `meh` imo, i prefer watches with chrome, titanium or chrome and gold (in the case of my dads yacht master) bracelets as apposed to the leather straps.

Just pick what you like the best!

EDIT: Should state, that's just my own opinion :P we all have our different tastes when it comes to watches I daresay...

EDIT No 2: To mr anonomous negger, i did make a point of stating that it was merely my own opinion, but oh well

The design doesn't seem to reflect the price tag, It looks like something you could pick up for £10 at the market. The Rotary name is the only sign of it's quality. I would go with a Tissot or a TAG Heuer.
They look more manly and they make more of a statement, people will comment on it.

I have this watch, people always say 'I like your watch' http://www.rotarywatches.com/en/the-.../agb00013-c-04

I would go for this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ORIENT-Autom...0279040&sr=8-1

I have it, fantastic watch for the money! Absolutely spot on automatic movement which ticks like a watch several hundred pounds more (I'm sure it would be, if it had a tissot logo on it). Also, just look at that beautiful blue dial

I don't really like either, but the second one is nicer.

For £500 I would gladly follow you around all day and tell you the time whenever asked.

They're both quite attractive pieces, though in my opinion, I would suggest you look at other makers for that price.

Why are you recommending quartz watches over the above automatic ones?
