Got my Access results! (and I've got a question!)
Hello! I'm a Northern Irish Access student taking the 2 year route. I see a lot of other British people on here who take Access courses and their results are in the form of distinctions, merits and passes. Over here we just give a damn about percentages!
For example, the entrance requirements for the BSc Hons Accounting and Law degree at the University of Ulster:
Access (2 year course)
Successful completion of year 2 with 76% (or over) in each final year module.
I've just completed my first year and at the start of the year our tutors told us our first year does NOT count at all with regards to the university application as they only care about final year.
However, considering on our UCAS application we can only submit our first year results do our results actually matter?
I finished this year with each module being 89%, 87%, 80% and 65%.
Just curious if that 65 will jump off the page or not lol, considering they want 76% in each final year module. The average is like, 80%. I'm a little, nervous.

Re: Got my Access results! (and I've got a question!)
Have you been given a conditional or unconditional offer? If it's conditional, then your second year marks need to be at or above that which is stated in your offer (click on the course code on UCAS to see the conditions). If it's unconditional, then your second year marks don't matter.

Re: Got my Access results! (and I've got a question!)
Your tutors can give a prediction of the results they expect you to achieve on completion of your second year exams as part of your UCAS application. This may be included in the predicted result section of the form or be part of the reference they write for you.
Since you will not be applying until September, now is the time to contact the universities you want to apply to and check with them directly as to whether they accept your form of Access course and what grades they expect. Talk to your teachers about what they think you will achieve and what course you want to do. If your predicted grades are lower than the university wants, I suggest you talk to your teachers and set out how you will achieve the grades you need. If you have a clear plan, they may revise their predictions accordingly. You still of course have to achieve that grade to secure your place.
Who is the awarding body for your Access course. You should be able to find out how many credits each of the modules you complete are worth.
More important for your UCAS application is a good relevant personal statement and an academic reference which supports your choice of course.Last edited by edjunkie; 21-06-2012 at 08:30. -
Re: Got my Access results! (and I've got a question!)I can't claim to know much about Access courses, but it seems likely that they will give you a conditional offer, with the conditions being that you have to get a certain mark in your second year(Original post by Geee Geee)
