I went to the GP, in the first instance I was prescribed some steroid cream and told to apply it daily for a couple of months. This had a limited effect but as soon as I stopped using the cream the foreskin tightened up again, so I went back to my GP who referred me to a urologist. The urologist took a look and recommended a circumcision, which I had a few weeks later.

Definitely go to the doctor. If you say you don't want a circumcision, don't worry, they won't force it on you and they will probably give you some cream to try first. But I was worried about being circumcised and actually now that I am I can say that it's nowhere near as big a deal as I thought it would be. The first week wasn't fun (having 15 stitches around the head of my penis was never going to be) but after that its pretty much painfree and after about week 3 you're back to full functionality. I'm not saying you should dive in and have a circumcision if you're not comfortable with it, but for me it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Would I prefer being circumcised to being uncircumcised? Possibly not.... But I certainly prefer being circumcised to having phimosis.

The reason the steroid cream did not work for you was that it was only designed to thin the skin. The doctor should have told you to perform stretching to expand the foreskin instead of just thin it.

Yeah, I did that as well. It worked a bit while I was using the cream but as soon as I stopped it went back to being tight again.

The most important thing is consistency when stretching. It takes the body a good amount of time to grow new cells, so if you stop, then it will start to tighten and you will lose your progress.

In terms of consistency, I'm talking stretching for 10 mins every morning and night every day for at least a few months depending on the severity in order to make any reasonable progress.

    Yet you said earlier

It didn't work because you stopped stretching.

I started using the cream and almost immediately - ie within a couple of days - there was a noticeable improvement. But it stopped there, the improvement plateaued and there was no further improvement over the following weeks/months. It's my foreskin - it didn't work.
