    Could I take History A-Level?
Bearing in mind I average a high B-low A average in English Lit??
And I didn't do History GCSE???
I really like the sound of History and the topics look really interesting, however I hate English Lit. Hate! Are the subjects really that much alike? Apart from the fact you have to write essays I don't see much difference

I do English Literature now, and I picked History as a 4th option earlier in AS, but dropped it because it was soo boring, so I had no interest in the content and therefore gained low marks in class essays etc.

However I love English Literature and I average A grades.

In my opinion the subjects are different. With history, it's either you know the answer to the question or you don't. If you don't know the answer then you're up sh*ts creek..

However, English literature you can argue against what the question is asking. And disagree or agree. So there's more room to gain marks in my opinion.

I didn't do GCSE history either, so it may be harder for you than others to grasp the content. But if you have an interest in history, then go for it.

Its no walk in the park, that's for sure.

I didn't do GCSE History but picked it for A level alongside English Lit, Biology and Drama, worked hard and got an A for the AS and an A for the A2 coursework and hopefully will have got an A* in the exam. You can do anything if you put your mind too it. I love History, I find it so interesting and enjoyable

I think you should go for it and just as an exampe my friend Alex got a B at GCSE for History and both English's but got 94% at AS for History!

I found GCSE and A level History ask for completely different things from you. At GCSE it was literally remembering facts and being able to put down as many of them as possible and the coursework was quite simple but there was a large amount - I came out with an A*. A level History asks you to interpret the events and use them to back up your argument and the questions can be quite hard. The coursework was like a marathon (AQA exam board) but the sense of accomplishment when you finish it is amazing. You can really see how your knowledge and interpretation of History changes over the two years and grasping theories and ideas becomes easier.
I want to do History at uni and would encourage anyone to do it if they are prepared for wider reading and quite a bit of note taking and revision. Its a really enjoyable subject and a good understanding of English lit will help you as well (I also took that for A Level) and if you are looking to go to uni it is quite a good subject to have a decent grade in under your belt when applying!
    Good Luck!!
