Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsI agree that union membership should be voluntary, but the rest of this motion is disgraceful. Banning trade unions would undermine the most basic principles of democracy that Britain has historically upheld. The use of the Daily Mail as a source for this terrible motion is laughable and the government must be widely condemned for proposing such nonsense.

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsI would like to clarify that this is a UKIP member's first time at writing a motion, but we are willing to take on board criticism and indeed may drop the last sentence from the final vote.(Original post by Birchington)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsPlease consider that. Although I don't agree with the union's plans for strike action, the government does not have the mandate to go around banning trade unions and thus damaging our democracy.(Original post by toronto353)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade Unions
United we bargain, divided we beg!
I joined the Labour Party aged 13, I was not made to, it was completely voluntary. I was not brainwashed into doing it. The only such brainwashing going on here is the subscription by this government to the poisonous anti-union dogma of rightist newspapers and the big businesses that control them. How very dare you. -
Re: M102 - Motion on Trade Unionsdespite being in bed with them, the Labour party itself is not a trade union(Original post by JPKC)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsYou're saying that a TU is more political than a political party? And FYI the Labour Party at a grassroots level is basically a big fun meeting up of trade unionists like myself. How dare Conservative Youth recruit young people! How dare they!(Original post by Moleman1996)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsNo, im saying that the labour party despite admirable beginnings is now just a tool for the unions to get what they want. They showed that when they elected Gromit instead of his brother as their leader.(Original post by JPKC)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsYes, I'm proud of the labour movement and its influence in the Labour Party - the two entities are one in the same. So why's it okay to join Labour at 13 but not a union?(Original post by Moleman1996)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsTrade unions are to protect the itnerests of the worker. How many of those 13 year olds do you think were in full time employment represented by said union?(Original post by JPKC)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsYou don't have to be a worker to join actually. You just have to want to protect the interests of workers. That's why retired workers, workers' wives, non-workers are members.(Original post by Moleman1996)

Re: M102 - Motion on Trade UnionsI agree that children should not be part of trade unions but a big no to banning them completely.
It could be.(Original post by stanlas)
Banning trade unions? Did internetguru write this by any chance?
