Help please :)
Hi I need help with deciding on a uni.
I'm a mature international student and I will be starting a foundation year this September, however I am having trouble deciding on a uni & it would be great help if anyone can tell me more about the uni/program/city for the unis I've been accepted to since I am not able to visit them myself.
The unis are:
Exeter
Bournemouth
Glasgow
And St. Andrews
The program is a international foundation program.
Many thanks!

Re: Help please :)
OK I can help you with Bournemouth as I am a native of the area - I DO NOT STUDY AT THE UNIVERSITY SO I CANNOT HELP YOU WITH CAMPUS STUFF, SORRY

Whereabouts are you coming from? If you're coming from areas like Spain, Greece etc some places offer direct flights to Bournemouth and you can get a shuttle bus to the town centre (takes 30 minutes roughly) then a connecting bus to the university (about 15-20 minutes). If not, Southampton serves a whole load of places in Western, central and southern Europe, and its 25 minutes from Bournemouth on a train then a bus from the train station. If not, apologies but if coming from London, commute to London Waterloo and get a train from there (2 hours)
Bournemouth has a load of bars and clubs, so you're never short of a good time if you like to drink alcohol and go clubbing. There are bus services to town which are regular (I'd recommend Yellow Buses over Wilts and Dorset as Yellow Bus prices aren't as ridiculous! However Wilts and Dorset run earlier, later and more frequent services to both Bournemouth and Poole.) Recently, Wilts and Dorset have added an extra 24 hour bus service for university students (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays only, buses run until like 10/11pm during the rest of the week) particularly on major clubbing and student nights.
Bournemouth and Poole have over 100 shops each, so whether you need food shopping, books or just fancy a browse, you have a lot of choice and really don't have to go far at all. The nearest cinema is located in the town centre, a few minutes away from the bus station, the beach, all the touristy type areas. There are loads of hairdressers and clothes shops, and libraries. It is also home to the second largest natural harbour in the world (only 2nd place to Sydney, Australia). There's plenty of arcades, pubs, clubs, things to do like bowling or swimming and loads of gyms.
If you need to know anything else about the Bournemouth/Poole area, please quote this message and I will be very happy to provide you with whatever assistance you may need. -

Re: Help please :)
Hi, what course are you hoping to do?
From what ive seen of Bournemouth it is a really great place, it's beautiful, there is lots of jobs there because it's a tourist area and the university's have a very good reputation. Bournemouth is currently England's number 1 uni for animation courses if that's what you want. I dont know about it's reputation for other courses but there is alot of international students in Bournemouth.
it has lots of lots to do with a really great beach, not much parking at he uni accomodation it seems but I'm sure your not bringing a car, it's better to have a bike anyways. The courses are well structured no matter what you want to study and the provide you with a very good library which I think runs for 24 hours a day, a professional looking environment with top pcs to make your experience at uni as comfortable and rewarding as possible.
Be warned though, not just anyone can go there, you must have good grades, so try your best and I hope you make the right choice that suits you.
P.s I I'm going to bu in September This year so these are some of the reasons I have for why I chose this uni over everything else, it's expensive but after all I've seen and heard, it's sooooo worth it! I cannot wait to go. D -

Re: Help please :)Exeter is a really nice city/town, it doesn't feel big enough to be a city, but I think this is nice about it, as everything is in walking distance and accessible. Weather is pretty standardly English. The campus is one of the most green and pleasant for students and you really appreciate it when walking around (although the hills aren't so much fun when running late for a lecture!)(Original post by SnoopyB)

As for the university, it's a member of the russell group, top 10 and is constantly undergoing renovations to make it better, such as the recent £48 million creation of the Forum which is designed to make the university more efficient, a centre of campus, and showing Exeter's commitment to its student body.
There are many societies and things to get involved with and whilst it may not have the same student nightlife of a big city university, Exeter still offers a great night out, with a range of clubs and pubs, meaning you don't miss out on the student experience.
Exeter would be a great shout. -

Re: Help please :)I'm going to be doing the computer animation arts course, so if you were to come there is a chance I might see you around, not sure though.(Original post by SnoopyB)
maybe i'll see you there, what are you going to study? I'm doing a foundation year in media studies.

I also forgot to mention that in the talbot campus these like a little medical place I think it is for cuts and stuff, which Is a nice thought, they also have really cool things for students to take part in, when I went there they told me about this event they had last year where people taking part would raise money for charity by getting as far away from the university as possible with no money or aid of your own transportation. I thought Ths was so cool, I heard that they managed to get to Amsterdam which is extremely cool considering they got there with no money. They have this really cool bar on campus which is perfect for students, it looked really comfortable and a great place to relax with freinds. Bournemouth is really focused on giving their students the best possible uni experience ever!
I speak so highly of BU because I loved it so much on the open days and interview visits. I hope I don't get disappointed. I doubt I will. :3
