So i just looked at my phone to find about 300 emails have come through from post master delivery saying something about delivery failed so ive logged on to hotmail to discover, to my utter joy..., that every single person on my contact list has been emailed some weird link ... anyone know what this is and how to stop it? i dont fancy having my account closed for spamming oh and these emails have gone to every university faculty ive ever emailed, all my teachers etc. -_-

It's just spam... The best thing to do is change the password to your account.

Alternatively get gmail.

It's my understanding that this is caused by a script that's been downloaded onto your computer by probably visiting a comprimised website. I had the same problem before, but if you change your password I believe it stops emails being sent.

Also your account wouldn't be closed, you would just have to go through a hotmail verification process.

Sounds like you got hosed.

So, were the emails actually in your sent items, or have you just received a postmaster email from each of your contacts?

Just noting, that gmail and pretty much any other e-mail service is at just as much risk of being taken over maliciously by scripts.

Change your password, and make sure you have decent anti-virus software / you don't download anything dodgy / etc.

Be sure to change the password on a separate, safe, computer. If there is a keylogger involved, then all you'll do is tell it your new password.

I change my password on a different computer. It should hopefully reduce the chance of it happening again.

Change your password, change your secret answer and add in your phone number, so it warns or anything if stuff happens.

happened to me before when i opened a spam email.

you got a virus, change your pass and stuff on a different computer, changing it on an infected computer is pointless.

also OP - do a virus scan on your computer -sounds like you got some bugs floating around
