WJEC Latin Literature Level 2 GCSE - June 2012
Had the first exam yesterday, my theme was love and marriage. I thought it was a tough-ish paper, the questions were very broad and there was a lot to write about in only an hour.
Tomorrow i'm doing the narratives - Nero and Agrippina.

How did you guys find it, and what topic did you do?

40/50 is needed for an a* on both of them

I did Love and Marriage too - I thought it was horrible compared to the spec paper! I was so tight for time as well :-(
I have Nero tomorrow too, not looking forward to it seeing as I find it harder than the poems! I don't have much to say about the language and style :\

Same here! It's ridiculous that we're given an hour for this exam and an hour and a quarter for latin language. seriously, i finished the language paper in 25 minutes and i finished the lit one 3 seconds before the invigilator called time.

Tomorrow will certainly be harder, i know the text off by heart, which is reassuring, but i'm so bad at techniques it's unreal

I did language last year thankfully, I could NOT have handled it on top of literature this year! I remember finishing it ridiculously early as well - why couldn't this paper be longer? I didn't get time to check it so I know I'll have made loads of stupid mistakes!

I was okay at them for the poems, but then they had loads of obvious techniques like alliteration - I can barely find any in this text! Yet I bet we'll get a ten mark question on Tacitus' style of writing...I hate the questions where they ask you to find 'five ways that make the scene dramatic' or whatever

oh god yeah, like yesterday I talked about tricolons and asyndetons, but i forgot to do basic techniques like assonance and alliteration, so i'm screwed. i'll get an a* in the language, hopefully, but literature has just screwed me over completely. 5 ways to make the scene dramatic is the worst kind of question... i agree

Same! Before we went into the exam, my friend and I were saying how the worst poems to come up would be Pliny's letter to Calpurnia Hispulla, because it's just so long and Martial, because it's so short that it's a struggle to find enough to say...so of course they just had to come up! :-(

I wish I could have just dropped latin after I did it last year, I loved language and the exam was so easy, and while I do quite like the poems/text for literature, the exams are so much harder.

I was going to suggest that we share tips, but I don't have any...this exam will not be fun!

Bit of a late reply but I thought it was better than the first too! The ten mark questions were pretty good as well, hopefully I'll come out with a decent grade :-) I couldn't remember who Britannicus was for ages though!

VERY late reply but I've been searching for this thread for ages and only just found it
I did the otium theme for lit, and then nero and agrippina...tbh I found both lit and lang quite decent, altough there was a sentence i completely mucked up in lang :hand:. How did everyone else find it (if you can still remember it!)

Going through my booklets and for Virgil trying to learn the story in English pretty well so that i know about main events etc in detail, also for the poems i might make some notes about language features and analysis etc so i have a few prepared points
