I really do think that Christian Grey should be older than what is in the book. I don't know why but when I read it, I thought of Hugh Laurie. But not Hugh Laurie as he is, Hugh Laurie in character of House.
So yes, House should be Christian Grey.

Thought that the book had an interesting story, just can't handle how badly written it is. I can't take another 'Christian please'. It just doesn't paint a sexy image in my head.

I don't understand why pornography is now fine to read in public.

    :sigh:

I've read bits of this book. It's not even soft-core it's blatant pornography.

No, never. Hugh Laurie is just way too cool and awesome to be associated with an manipulative creep like Christian Grey.

Ive read all of them to see whzt the fuss is about as usually im glued to my Austen and Bronte, it literally was ****ly written i felt like I was reading a dirty twillight, Christian gray is
    -full of bull****
    -pigheaded
    -a bully
-has an ego bigger than that great wall of china
    -is creepy

Anna is supposed to be the 'virginal' innocent, who webt from beimg scared of penis to a bondage fanatic within a few days.

The sex scenes are so fake nobody has sex like that I dont see what all the hype is about it seems christian has to look at her and she's gone all jelly. Its just a hype its like the hype about jilly coopers riders 10 years ago

I don't understand why you can call things like this 'literature'. Literature implies an art form. There is nothing artistic about badly written pornography.

It's not even good porn. It's so unrealistic. And yes, porn, to some extent, IS unrealistic, but at least it doesn't pretend to be realistic. Its such an insulting book and gives women (and especially teenage girls with not much sexual experience) ridiculous expectations of sex.

    It's so overrated. Simple.

And I wouldn't dare read it; it's an embarrassment to literature that it's so successful. There are so many authors that haven't got published books yet are SO better and deserve publishment. Do they get it? No, Fifty Shades of S*** gets it instead.

It's definitely overrated. Bit I still enjoyed it.

It's a badly written book in the world of literature but it's not meant to be well written...

I am sick of hearing about this book, I have to sit and listen to my mother, sister and girlfriend talk about it!

Are they serious, they are talking about PORN, like its freaking coronation street!!!!

My god, I wish they knew what they sounded like. I might have to just fire up some red tube on the laptop next time, and show my dad.

THIS. It's really not OK. I work in a primary school and someone was reading it in the staff room. Two members of staff were discussing the plot IN the classroom. Just because it has a friendly cover and is words not pictures does not make it OK, erotic literature has been around for a long time it's never been ok to discuss it in public.

It's such a change in social norms that it does make me uncomfortable, and I'm not normally a prude :s

Its now just such a bandwagon thing, that everyone wants to be part of the "cool crowd" who are reading it, you just know when someone is reading it on a bus or some ****, they are thinking, "hey everyone, look what I'm reading, look how liberating I am"

FML, don't these people know that its actually not cool to jump on bandwagons haha!

Yeah it's so sad!! And about it being made into a film, I don't get it.

If you make a porn book into a film, isn't that just... Porn?

Haha, this is one question I have been asking myself.

They obviously aren't going to have explicit scenes anywhere near what the book depicts, so it kind of takes away the edge from the whole thing.

Like Harry Potter pulling rabbits out of hats.

If I wanted to read a middle-aged woman's fictionalized sexual fantasies, I'd read a Twilight fanfiction.

    Oh, wait :teehee:

Blog entry about 50 shades of gray.

I think it's a bit sad that it's the biggest selling book when it's so poorly written!

There's not even that much porn in it...

I was expecting (from the outrage and excitement in the media) that it'll be every other page, they'll be doing crazy stunts while having the time of their lives. But in reality, it's pretty tame reading. She bites her lip, he gets excited *yawn*

The 2nd book does get a little better when it has more of a bizarre story-line. But yes, I can definitely see how it came from fan-fiction; the unbelievable fact that he has endless money, the storyline that no one can seriously believe it.

But it's MUCH better than actual Twilight - I haven't wanted to kill Ana yet whereas that happened with Bella about 10 pages into the 1st book.

I had an urge to punch her in the face within a few chapters - though yeah, she is less irritating than Bella.

    Spoiler:
    Show
Only read the first book of 50 shades, and I'm going to pretend she came to her senses, left him, and that's the end of the story.
