    Am I unfit?
I hardly do any exercise except I play tennis 1 or 2 times a week. I hear of people who do 5 and 10k runs so I decided I would see how far I can run today and I could only run 3km and I felt sick. Does this make me really unfit?

I'm pretty sure we all feel sick when we run far, we just push through that. It's called determination.

17 minutes... Also it wasn't a flat run, I was running up and down hill.

I don't have much determination tbh, I wish I did

There are different types of fitness. A rock climber will be different to a mid distance runner or tennis player. Sprinters won't manage a marathon despite being the most oiled machine for short distances (marathons seem pretty unhealthy to me anyway).

Having said that if you went at a slow steady pace and only managed 3km, that's not good. Other ways to get an idea of your fitness (but by no means an absolute system to measure it) is to check your resting heart rate and your recovery rate.

Edit: so your average speed was 6.6mph which isn't that bad. I bet you burned yourself out early and slowed later. Did you warm up?

    Not really unfit.

People who run 5k and 10k races usually have to train to do so (if they're taking it seriously).

The best answer is, if you think you're unfit, you probably are, so do something about it.

    If you can't run a sub 20min 5k then you're unfit.
